What is Stress?
Stress is a condition in which the human system responds to changes in its normal balanced state or homeostasis. Anything that is perceived as challenging, threatening, or demanding can cause stress and these differ from person to person, these are called stressors. Stressors can be either physiological, or psychosocial.
What Can Stress Do For You?
Stress in healthy individuals can promote health and prevent illness, it can temporarily boost the immune system.
Negative Effects
Stess on an already unhealthy person is usually negative. Stress effects physiology, safety, love, self esteem, and self-actualization. Stress affects the person suffering as well as close family and friends.
Signs and Symptoms
Symptoms include but are not limited to anxiety, exhaustion, figeting, high blood pressure, and emotional outbursts.
Stress Prevention
Primary: preventive measure designed to reduce or eliminate stressors.
Secondary: preventive measure designed to alter or modify the response to a particular stressor.
Tertiary: preventive measure deisned to get rid of symptoms of distress and strain.
Defense Mechanisms
Protect your self esteem! These mechanisms are useful in mild to moderate anxiety. If used too much, they may become ineffective. These tools include compensation, denial, displacement, introjection, preojection, rationalization, regression, repression, and undoing.
