Welcome Back from Speical Area Educators

BES specical are teachers are looking forward to a year of learning with your children. We have each designed a curriculum of relevant learning for your student in the areas of art, media center resources, music, physical education and technology. Our school counselor has also planned a meaningful year of lessons to give your child resources to make good choices. We are here to serve you and your child. We have exciting things planned for your BES student.

Welcome Back from Mr. Wade!!!

It is great to see everyone back at school and so excited to begin this year. We have had a week of school now and we are all getting back in the groove.

We will have another music teacher on Mondays and Thursdays but the county hasn't found one yet. Ms. Simmons told us she couldn't come back right before school started and we haven't found a replacement. In the meantime Mr. Ensley, who subs at Brentwood a lot, is going to be with us. We will be combining some classes and working together to make the transition smooth.

I will be sending home invitations to join chorus soon. The chorus will be involved in our Holiday Program in December. Remember it is an invitation. You have the choice for your students to be involved or not. We meet on Thursdays after school until 2:50 pm.

You can follow my what we do in class by going to http://www.planbookconnect.com. Type in Wade in the search box and then select Gorden Wade from Brentwood Elementary. You can browse through my lesson plans for each grade to see what kind of things we are doing.

Second grade is going to be involved in our Holiday program in December this year. We are going to have help from a UWF student with the drama. This is exciting! It should be a great program.

Technology Tips with Ms. Baker

Welcome back to the new school year! This year is sure to be another wonderful year at Brentwood! I am very excited to be rejoining the special area teachers as a part of the special area rotation. Each class will, at some point during the year, visit the STEM Lab! STEM stands for Science, Engineering, Technology, and Math. In the STEM Lab students will be using iPads, laptops and Lego Robotics to explore foundational technology skills, build and program robots, and HAVE FUN!

If you are looking for ways to help your student with technology, try having your child type using "home row" position. Some great typing websites are;
TypeRacer
Dance Mat Typing

All students would also benefit from bringing their OWN headphones to school each day. These can be purchased for as little as $1.00 at the Dollar Tree or you can also find them at Wal-Mart, Target, and other stores.

If you are looking for ways to show your child's teacher a little appreciation ALL of the Brentwood teachers LOVE iTunes gift cards so they can purchase new apps for the students! (Something to keep in mind as the holidays roll around!) If you don't want to purchase a gift card you can also "gift" an app to the teacher. This ensures that the class gets the app and it can cost as little as 99 cents!

Finally, be on the look out for Technology Club applications! Technology Club is for 1st-5th grade students and is held one morning a week BEFORE school! There will be a mandatory parent meeting for any students interested and a flyer will be sent home a week before the meeting!

As always, I look forward to working with all of Brentwood's students and families!

Sincerely,
Ms. Baker

P.E.

Miss Gartman has an exciting year planned in Physical Education for all of our BES students. Parents, please make sure your students are wearing proper tennis shoes or at least have a pair of spare tennis shoes at school at all times. The school district prohibits students from participating in P.E. without tennis shoes.
