Cause/how the child gets it
•Down syndrome is typically caused by what is called nondisjunction. Nondisjunction happens when a pair of chromosomes fails to separate during egg or sperm) formation. When that egg unites with a normal sperm to form an embryo, the embryo ends up with three copies of chromosome 21 instead of the normal two.
treatments
•Its unlikely that there will ever be a cure for down syndrome. Down syndrome is an incredibly complex genetic disorder. there is no single, standard treatment for Down syndrome. Treatments are based on each individual's physical and intellectual needs as well as his or her personal strengths and limitations.1 People with Down syndrome can receive proper care while living at home and in the community.
Life expectancy
•Some people with Down syndrome have lived into their 80s. It is true that people with Down syndrome on average don't live as long as their typical counterparts. Unfortunately, the average life expectancy for an African-American in the U.S. with Down syndrome is just 35 years old.
