Mrs. Stevenson's Message
Dear South Creek Families,
joy·ful (joi′fəl) adj. Feeling, causing, or exhibiting joy
‘Bringing Joy Back into the Classroom’ by Danny Brassell is the book that the staff is studying this year. The goal of this book study is to guide teachers in taking control of the atmosphere in their classroom, to help them become the most effective teacher possible, and to guarantee an optimal learning environment for all students.
BE is the theme this year at South Creek. Depending on what the focus is throughout the year we will add to the theme, for example, BE joyful, BE drug free.
We have had a smooth start to the 16-17 school year. Many thanks for the PTO and parent volunteers that helped at the beginning of the year with arrival, dismissal, lunch duty, and organizing our new leveled library. Please consider joining SC PTO and make sure you follow SC on facebook.
South Creek is a school of hope, guided by knowledge, inspired by love.
Toni Stevenson, Principal

Rocking Prizes by Emily Rule
Hey Gators! Did you hear what’s rocking in music? Mrs.Mappes is now handing out prizes at music! You can earn prizes for good behavior at stations. Mrs.Mappes is now doing stations during music. If you and your group do not get a red cup during stations you will earn a prizes. You can get a prize. You get a prize after the 3rd time you come to music. If you and your group do get a red cup, you will not be able to get a prizes. There are cool prizes. The first prize I got was a yo-yo. There are also little notebooks, frisbees, stickers, and much more! Mrs.Mappes will change her prizes and add more every time she refills it. Don’t forget you only get a prize if you don’t get a red cup. Stay on task, pay attention when teacher is speaking, and have fun with your station. You can earn your prize at music with good behavior.
Getting Gator Goodies, by Faith Smith
Hey Gators! Have you seen the gator in the halls this week? Well I have, and he told me to tell everyone to use their Gator Greats! He wants YOU to be on your best behavior. So be good and maybe you will earn something really special like a gator head for your class, a gator ticket, or a positive office referral. Be on your best behavior!
Recess rules & safety by Garrett McElfresh
Now that we are back into our school routine,it’s time to review recess and playground safety.
Everyone follow directions
Keep pens and pencils in the classroom
Play games only in approved areas
Keep your hands and feet to yourself
Always stay in designated areas so adults can supervise easily
Check slides to make sure it’s not too hot to slide down
Treat others the way you want to be treated
Buddy up when playing especially when climbing or you could fall
If someone gets hurt alert an adult immediately
Be respectful of recess teachers
Always line up when called
Remember to look out for each other. The playground and recess are a time for us to have a break from class and have fun. Rules are made to keep us safe so we can all have fun!

Homecoming Parade by Reece Koomler
On September 22 is the Franklin Township Homecoming Parade. A lot of people come to it every year. You get loads of candy from the people in the parade. Kids from South Creek that are the Gator of the Month in August get to be in the parade, also. It is a lot of fun to go and see all your friends at the parade.
Some other people that are going to be in the parade are the Franklin Township Football Team, the Cheerleaders, and all the other schools in Franklin Township, like Thompson Crossing. If you go to the Homecoming parade, I promise you that you will have lots of fun. The parade starts at 5:30 in Wanamaker. See you there!
School Safety by Dayla Craig
Some students in Mr.Roets class have something to say about School Safety. Here is one student, Ella Cooper. Ella said, "It’s okay they should be secure on recess equipment. Here’s Braydon Halls says "It's okay, upgrade it a little more on secure doors. Andrea says “ it’s awesome because the teachers are protective."
The Convocation by Emily Rule
Welcome to South Creek, Gators! I hope all of you had a fun summer! Do you remember our convocation? Do you remember what we learned? We learned the expectations for the hallways, cafeteria, recess areas and the bathrooms. Let’s review!
Hallways: Level one, face forward and walk.
Bathroom: Level one, walk and no playing around (like splashing other kids with water).
Cafeteria: Level three, face your table and level one when it is red light.
Recess: Level four, play safe and have fun!
If you follow all these rules you could earn yourself a Gator Ticket!
I’ve interviewed a new student and a student to see what they learned at the convocation about South Creek rules and expectations.
What did the convocation teach you?
Student: She learned about bucket filling and bullying.
Are you going to try and earn those Gator Great Tickets? (You can earn Gator Great Tickets with good behavior)
Student: Yes.
Thank you
Recipe of the month by Katy Walker
Do you like cooking and baking? Well I do, so I will be bringing you one of my favorite recipes in each issue of the gator gazette. The first one is a favorite breakfast recipe mine called “” The recipe is very simple, good, and fun! This recipe is a healthy breakfast idea. If you make then eat this recipe you will do better in school. This recipe is a good way to use overripe bananas. My mom puts extra bananas that we don’t eat in the freezer for the banana bread.(one bowl recipe)
Ingredients
½ Cup of (1 stick) butter, at room temperature
1 cup of sugar
½ teaspoon of salt
2 eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour,sifted
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of baking powder
3 to 4 bananas, mashed
Preheat the oven to 350°. Grease a 9x5" loaf pan. In a mixing bowl, combine the butter and sugar; mix well. Add the salt, eggs, vanilla, flour, baking soda, baking powder, and bananas, and mix well. Where the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 50 minutes.
Gator GREATS Convocation by Emily Rule
First Year, First Impressions, by Teegan Quick
Gators, it has already been 4 full weeks of school and the Gator Gazette decided to interview a kindergartener from Mrs. Monday’s class to see how she has liked school so far. Today, I’m interviewing Clara; she is in Mrs. Monday’s class and has loved school so far. Here are some questions I asked her for some more detail.
The first thing I wanted to know from Clara was how old she was. Clara said she is five and a half. Then I wanted to know how she likes Mrs. Monday so far, and she told that she loved having her for a teacher. After asking her some basic questions, I wanted to know a little bit more about what she liked in school. Clara was very speedy in her answer, saying recess and math, and that she loves art! She was very joyous to tell me that she loved all of her assignments.
Thank you Clara, for letting us see a little part of your adventure in your first few weeks of kindergarten. I hope you enjoyed this interview with a fun and energetic South Creek Gator!
