October 7 Update for Intermediate Families
October 11 - 14 is School Safety Week At Sodus
Arriving in the Mail Next Week: iReady Diagnostics Reports for Reading & Math
Dear Intermediate Families:
Next week we will be mailing home copies of your child's fall iReady diagnostic assessment for math and reading. Those students who are designated to receive Academic Intervention Services (AIS) will receive notification in this same mailing.
- iReady Diagnostic Reports: Next week we will be sending home a mailing that will include your child's fall iReady diagnostic reports for reading and math. This is a family-friendly report that will show your child's overall score on the diagnostic, and breakdown his or her achievement in each skill component of the assessment. Later in this newsletter is a video for families about iReady and how you can partner with the school to support your child's growth in reading and math.
- AIS Letters: All students in the Intermediate School receive additional instruction in reading and in math. Some of our parents will receive a letter in this mailing letting you know that your child is designated to receive AIS (academic intervention Services) and will receive quarterly progress reports for these services. Students are selected for AIS based on multiple measures that include: Spring 2022 and Fall 2022 iReady diagnostic reports in math and reading, student quarterly averages in math and ELA, NYS Assessment data for math and ELA, and teacher recommendation.
If you have any questions your child's iReady diagnostic report, or whether your child is receiving AIS in ELA or math, please contact Mrs. Bucenec, School Counselor, through email at mbucenec@soduscsd.org, or me through email at ehoskins@soduscsd.org, or by phone at 483-5242 or 483-5281.
As always, its a pleasure and a privilege to work with all of our students, parents, and staff members in the intermediate School. Please do not hesitate to contact me through email or by phone at school or in the evenings on my cell phone (315) 576-7090. Enjoy the long weekend!
With appreciation,
Gene Hoskins
Intermediate School Principal
iReady Information and Video For Families
i-Ready is an online program for reading and/or mathematics that will help your student’s teacher(s) determine your student’s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready consists of two parts: Diagnostic and Personalized Instruction. The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. i-Ready Personalized Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual skill level and needs, so your child can learn at a pace that is just right for him or her. These lessons are fun and interactive to keep your child engaged as they learn.
Please click on the video links below for a short informational video on iReady and some information on how to better understand your child's iReady diagnostic reports. Thanks!

Honoring Our Veterans During Patriotism Week
2022 Intermediate School Patriotism Week Video:
Our Intermediate School students will be participating in Patriotism Week from November 7-10 this year. This annual week-long celebration is sponsored by our Intermediate School Improvement Team. We are excited that we will once again be to host an in-person assembly during which we will recognize family members of our students and staff members who are veterans or who are currently serving in a branch of the Armed Forces. We will also to honor these family members by recognizing them in a video that can be shared with our school community.
If your child has a family member who is a veteran or who is currently serving in the Armed Forces, we would like to invite him or her to attend our assembly on November 10 at 7:50 AM, and also include him or her in our video recognition. Students are welcome to create their own slide to put in our slideshow celebrating their family member’s service, or supply us with the information below and we can create a slide for you if you email me at ehoskins@soduscsd.org with the following information:
Your child’s name
Name of the veteran or active duty service member
His or her relationship to your child
Military Branch the he or she served in (or is currently serving in)
If possible, please include a picture for our presentation along with the email
Thank you for helping us recognize those in our community for their service to our country!
We will have more information about our Patriotism Week celebration as we get closer to November 7. We will be discussing Patriotism Week at our next virtual Intermediate School Improvement Team (ISIT) meeting on Monday, October 17 at 4:00 PM.
