January News
Kenneth J. Tice Elementary
Principal's Points!
I am thankful for the commitment you and your child have made to our Tice family. We are very proud of the success they have had so far and we can't wait to see how well they will perform for the remainder of the school year. The second half of the school year is always very busy with a host of activities, including district and state testing. The pace in the classroom is also very quick this semester, so I encourage you to read with your child daily, complete homework assignments, and talk to your child about the importance of doing their best while at school.
I would also like to bring to your attention the concern we are having with morning car rider arrival. If your child arrives to school, he or she must be dropped at 7:00 am or later. Dropping your child off before 7:00 am when no one is on duty is dangerous. We are asking for your cooperation and for you to help us keep your child safe while at school. Please remember that when you drop your child off before adult supervision is present you are risking your child’s safety.
This month we look forward to your family joining us for our second nine weeks awards ceremony, National Bring Your Father/Male Figure to School Day and our Gifted and Talented Student Expo.
Tice is a great place to be and we are happy to serve you and your child. As always, thanks for maintaining a positive home school relationship.

Character Education Theme
January’s Character Themes of the month is perseverance. Perseverance is not giving up. It is persistence and tenacity, the effort required to do something and keep doing it till the end, even if it's hard. Students will learn to set goals for themselves and learn to overcome obstacles they will have to face in order to reach them.
Books about Perseverance that your children will love:
Thank you, Mr. Falker by Patricia Polacco
The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires
Luke Goes to Bat by Rachel
Sally Jean the Bicycle Queen by Cari Best

Campus Accountability: School Report Card and Texas Academic Performance Report
You will find a copy of the State of Texas 2016–17 School Report Card for Tice Elementary on the campus webpage. This is a report required by the Texas Legislature and prepared by the Texas Education Agency. The report provides information concerning student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®), as well as information on student enrollment, class size averages, and financial expenditures.
The information contained in the School Report Card is required by state law and is briefly described in the enclosed “2016–17 School Report Card Definitions.” The report for our school may or may not have all the information described because the information presented depends on whether the school is an elementary, middle, or high school.
State law requires that the school report card display information about the state, the
district, and the school. Where possible, the information must be reported by race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status of the students and must include at least two years of results.
The School Report Cards can be found online at
https://rptsvr1.tea.texas.gov/perfreport/src/20176/campus.srch.html
A more complete report about Tice, the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR), is available by contacting the front office or can be accessed online at

Please contact me if you have any questions concerning this report card. Thank you for
your continued support of Tice.
