German immagrants
All about the German immagrants
Why they came to the U.S.
They came to the U.S. Because they wanted to have their own religion of their own choice they wanted to get more land and to get some more land they wanted better jobs so they came to America cause they knew that America had the better jobs that they needed and the money to pay for their kids education. They also wanted to get away from the wars that would take place nearby their homes. Most immigrated during and after World War One and World War Two.

Where did they settle
They settled in Pennsylvania,Texas,California,North Dakota,Florida,New York and places around the Midwest. They settled there because they had more of their friends and family that already lived there from when they immigrated in the 1800s.
Their first years in America
They have to make their own homes and they lived in small sod houses they only have one room and its a dirt floor. Many of the men worked in bakeries, breweries, factories, and also as a miner. The women immigrants worked as waitresses, servants, and they worked in a different type of factory than the men. The kids worked at the farm (that was their job) and they usually started doing that at age 8.
Their traditions
Oktoberfest is where they eat German foods and where German clothes and they also listen to German music. They also came up with the Easter egg hunt and they do it every year and that's how the whole thing started because then the Irish,Polish,Danish, and many more types of immigrants started doing it the same with the Christmas tree and it being decorated.
Interesting facts
German Americans usually learned how to play musical instruments and towns had at least one or two bands. Another interesting fact is that seven million Germans immigrated to the United States from 1820-2000. During World War Two from 1939-1945 Germans stopped writing in and speaking in German because they were at war with America.
