Volunteer of the Week ~Jan Valley~
Jan has been volunteering at Sierra Verde since 2012 when her daughter Olivia joined Mrs. Puentes’ Kindergarten classroom, and she has been our volunteer extraordinaire ever since. She has read many a sight words with 1st graders, copied and helped in many classrooms, that her daughter has been in. She has also been a “Drama Mama” for theater. Now you will find Jan every morning helping the front office, answering phones, helping visitors and staff with anything, she can help, while she is here, including clicking students into their clubs and/or tutoring. When she is not here, she loves to go to concerts with her husband Bruce, enjoys time with her daughters Olivia, who is a sophomore at MRHS and Brianna, a nurse. Most of all with her granddaughters Savannah and Avery, future Sierra Verde students for sure.
Calling all Veterans
Welcome to SV Mrs. Armendariz
My name is Leticia Armendariz. I like to be called "Letty" I am so excited to become one of the Sierra Verde Staff members.
I am married and had 4 children, two boys and two girls. Unfortunately lost one son 2014. I have 12 grandkids that I love and enjoy them as much as I can. My spare time is spent with family and friends. I enjoy outdoor activities and I love Dogs. My favorite show to watch on TV is about sharks and Lions also bears. I Love Country music and my favorite food is Italian and Seafood. Yes I am 100% Mexican yet, don't really like Mexican food. Although my husband says I am a great cook and will cook anything, but if I would ever win the Lottery I would hire a Chef.
I currently work for Lexington Law Firm as a Paralegal. I’ve been there 7 years and 9 months and now very excited to work for Valley School District
I already feel so welcome and happy to be here.

Priority Open Enrollment 23-24
Open Enrollment is underway for the 2023– 2024 school year. Through Open Enrollment, your child has the opportunity to attend any school of their choice, if capacity permits. If you currently have an 8th grader that will be attending Mountain Ridge High School next year and Mountain Ridge is not your home school, you need to apply for open enrollment by December 05, 2022 for priority consideration. If you have another student starting school next year in any grade and your current student is on open enrollment, you should also apply by December 2022. Priority will be given to siblings of currently enrolled students if grade level capacity permits. You must apply online at dvusd.org/openenrollment. It is not necessary to reapply for Open Enrollment for currently enrolled students at Sierra Verde, only new students wishing to attend.
For those of you with family, friends, or neighbors looking to attend SV next year, it is essential that you get an application ASAP and prior to the the closing of our priority window. In most grades, we typically have to waitlist most students if they apply after December.
Families will be notified if the application has been approved or denied via email in January 2023. Upon notification, a registration must be completed online, no later than 10 days after notification of the decision, or the student potentially forfeits the approved Open Enrollment and may need to reapply.
If you have any questions, please contact the front office at 623-376-4800.

Mindfulness Monday Challenge of the Week
Our Smartphones, Chromebooks, and tablets are never far away from our fingertips, and in this digital world, most of us can't function without them. How often to do you use your phone? How many times during the day do you swipe, use apps, check social media, send messages or even just TOUCH your phone? To really drive home how much we mindlessly touch and use our phones, here are a few 2022 statistics: On average, people spend 3 hours and 15 minutes on their phones per day. Individuals check their phones an average of 58 times each day.
Mindfulness at its core is an importance of being connected with ourselves and the world around us, but our need for constant connection to technology means we're depriving ourselves of this goal. When we disconnect from technology, our productivity levels increase, we feel much more fulfilled, content, and happy with our abilities. Life becomes so much more meaningful. We all need digital down time. Take time this week to be aware of how often you are touching your phone and make an effort to take a break from tech.
Challenge of the Week: Find time each day this week to take a break from technology and enjoy being outside or making in-person connections. Maybe you take a 5 minute tech break after announcements, or maybe you keep your phone off after the bell rings at the end of the day. Make a mindful effort to "turn off".
