Study the Spelling List
You can use the Spelling Activities sent home in the parent email the first week to study these words if you choose to. Please remember that it is important for the students to be able to apply the use of these words in their writing as well.
If you are participating in the Six Flags Read to Succeed Program, the deadline to finish reading your 360 minutes is Friday, February 26. If you need a new form, you can find one on the library website https://sites.google.com/a/friscoisd.org/nichols-library/six-flags-read-to-succeed-program . All completed forms will need to be turned in to Mrs. Walther in the library.
The Nichols' Spring Book Fair will be taking place Feb. 16-26. Please note that books that are due during these 2 weeks will become overdue and emails will be sent automatically. I cannot turn these off so please disregard them and return any overdue books after the book fair concludes. I'm sorry for this inconvenience. Thanks for your understanding!

Classroom Wish Lists
Here are the definitions of words that we have been covering in science.
There is no specific vocabulary over the phases of the moon.
We will be introducing the students to the basic of multiplication. We will be using concrete, pictorial, and word models to demonstrate our knowledge. Students will not be expected to know their multiplication facts or be able to write a multiplication fact yet. We will focus on how to create a certain number of equal groups. Over the next few weeks they will see a variety of problems that will allow them to use these new strategies to solve.
Repeated Addition- There are 10 markers in a box. How many markers are in 4 boxes? 10+10+10+10=40
Multiplicative Comparison Model- Johnny has 4 basketballs. His brother has 4 times as many basketballs. How many basketballs does his brother have? (Students would draw a model to show four groups of four.)
Rate Model- The teachers walked 5 miles each day. How many miles did they walk in 3 days? (Students would draw a model to show 3 groups of five.)
Cartesian Product Model- Salsa has 6 main courses and 2 side dishes on their menu. How many combinations could a customer order? (Students would draw a model to represent 6 groups of 2.)
Area Model- The gift I was wrapping needed a certain amount of wrapping paper. It needed to be 4 feet long and 8 feet wide. What is the area of the wrapping paper? (Students would draw an area model using rows and columns to show how many feet of paper there would be in all.)
We hope that you find these resources useful as you use them at home.
