English Language Arts (ELA)
The kindergarten ELA program is dividing into different components. Below is a description of each component and what your child will be learning the upcoming week.
Daily Message
This week in Daily Message we will...
- edit the daily message by finding and fixing the errors.
- find the noun and/or verb in the message.
- find sight words we have learned in the message.
Word Work
This week in Word Work we will...
- identify the letter Oo in words.
- identify the short o in the beginning and middle of words.
- sort long o and short o pictures/words
- learn the sight word "you."
Shared Reading
This week in Shared Reading we will...
- describe the relationship between illustrations and the text .
- ask and answer questions about key details in a text.
- retell familiar stories including key details.
- identify and compare characters and settings in stories.
- make personal connections
Grammar/Writing
This week in Grammar/Writing we will...
- use adjectives to expand our sentences.
- share ideas by drawing, writing, and/or dictating.
- identify different end marks (., ?, !).
- complete a sentence by writing a word.
Math
Unit 4: Counting and Measurement
This week in math we will...
- count on from a given number.
- combine and count 2 amounts to find the total.
Content
This week in content we will...
- review our classroom commitment.
- identify ways we are special and unique.
- set goals for the new year.

Birthday Celebrations
Birthdays will be celebrated once a month in the classroom. Our designated birthday days are listed below. Children will celebrate with extra recess (3:00-3:30). Parents are invited to join us during this time. Please let me know if you will be attending.
