Staff Spotlight

Mrs. Fakes

This month's staff highlight is focused on Mrs. Rosie Fakes. Mrs. Fakes has been teaching health and PE at The Cascade High School for 38 years. Mrs. Fakes is a devoted wife and mother. Her husband, Todd Fakes, works at Monrovia High School and together they have two sons, Zane and Tyran. Mrs. Fakes’ life has been devoted to exercise and sports in general. She is a former athlete, playing volleyball, and coaching in general. She coached volleyball and track for over 20 years and coached the team that won the first volleyball sectional in Cascade’s history. Her hobbies include watching high school wrestling, exercising, spending time in her summer cabin, and for the past couple of years, following her son's collegiate athletic careers. Mrs. Fakes comes from a very physically-minded family as her husband, sister, and sister-in-aw all teach PE. She has quite an extensive family. This leads to her love of Cascade. She stated that she loves the small school family atmosphere. She did not originally plan to be at Cascade long but ended loving it and staying. Mrs. Fakes also believes that The Cascade High School is best small school in the state. Even though she has been changing the lives of students at The CHS for many years, she still has a strong desire to keep kids interested in health and being in shape. Thank you for all you have done and currently do for our staff and students, Mrs. Fakes!

Teacher of the month

Jon Mitchell Senior Academy

March delivers us from one of the hardest months in Education. The February Funapalooza was exactly what we needed to be able to keep our focus on always competing while also embracing the "Fish Philosophy." As we work our way through March, the end of the senior year comes more into focus. The pace starts to pick up in these last three months of school with events like spring break, prom and graduation. It can become a blur, as always our focus is on the process. With the end of the school career, so starts the "real" life. Along with conversations about college and career, we have moved heavily into "Winning at Life." Winning at Life is simply applying the always compete and fish philosophy to the greater arena of our lives after school. Our seniors will be equipped with a great work ethic coupled with the ability to enjoy life. We want them to understand work/life balance.

CHS Guidance

The Cascade High School guidance office is excited to announce we have received a grant from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education to support their College Bus Tour project. This year the Bus Tour will use a Free Enterprise charter bus to travel on April 13 to Trine University, St Francis University and Manchester University. Bright and early that morning, over 55 students, parents, guidance staff and community partners will leave campus for an adventurous day. This is the third year of the tour and it keeps growing each year. Participants leave the day with great information and usually some free college gear. This trip is open to students in grades 9, 10 and 11 and are required to have a parent join them for the day. It is a great day for everyone to start planning for their future.
