Support for an RSD6 Student
Three Expectations
In accordance with our 2017-2018 JMS School Improvement Plan, I am meeting with all classrooms to discuss with students "three tips" (expectations) for contributing to improved school climate. These expectations, shown above, are presented as not only applicable to school but life in general.
All JMS staff will continue to model, reinforce, and review these tips with students on an ongoing basis. Parents and guardians can help support a strong school climate by extending these conversations at home with such questions and prompts as
- What is one way that you showed respect at school today?
- What is one way that you showed responsibility at school today?
- What are the expected behaviors on the bus? In the cafeteria?
Thank you for your continued support,
KC Chapman
Nightly Reading
After a tremendous fall in which our students' independent reading minutes were outstanding, our 2018 minutes are significantly down. Please help support our reading initiative, intended to increase students' reading stamina and strengthen reading as a habit, by reminding your child that reading and subsequent logging of minutes is a nightly homework assignment.
It will take all students meeting or exceeding their individual goal to reach our March 1st target and earn another pajama-and-movie celebration.
JMS Tackles Hunger
Cheer on your team for the 2018 Super Bowl by donating canned goods to the Morris Food Bank! Two boxes are in the main lobby - one for the New England Patriots, and one for the Philadelphia Eagles! Please bring in your donations no later than February 9th.

Jump Rope for Heart
RSD 6 Elementary students are jumping their way to heart-healthy bodies while helping kids with heart problems. Wellness and PE classes will involve students in lessons focusing on the heart, circulatory and respiratory systems along with jump rope skills. We are very proud of our students for their desire and enthusiasm to raise money for the American Heart Association to help kids with heart problems. Although all students will participate in the Jump Rope For Heart lessons and activities, raising money is optional. As always, thank you for your support of PE & Wellness programs.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Wright and Mr. Gauvain

A Message from Mrs. Fodor
In addition to having students "guess then test" how many hearts they can use to build a free-standing cardboard heart sculpture and creating a Valentine's Day Thaumatrope, I wanted to reach out to the Chicago based organization "Cards for Hospitalized Kids." You can read more about this organization here.
I thought this would be a great way to get our students creating, as well as brighten some one's day. If you have any crafting materials you are looking to clean out, please consider our Makerspaces!
