Education Training Portal
The Education and Training Department understands the importance of maintaining the high quality care and education and to do this has partnered with the IT Department to create the Education Training portal. We are working hard to add training's that will ensure the success of our teachers and staff, and provide them with a clear understanding of Rainbow Child Care Center’s goals and expectations.
May is Parent Teacher Conference Month!
May is almost here! Are your Child Assessments and Portfolios ready for Parent Teacher Conferences?
Items to Include:
Please ensure all materials added to the child’s portfolio include their first and last name, date the product was completed, curriculum objectives and explanation.
Work Samples
- Samples of art work, writing, mastering of developmental milestones
- Progression work samples (writing their name, family portrait, etc.)
- Self portraits
Anecdotal Notes
- 2 per child per week
Pictures
- Pictures of children completing tasks
Assessment
- Completed assessment tools
- Parent / Teacher Conversation tools
Assessments:
- The assessment tool should be completed twice a year for conferences.
- The tool follows the Creative Curriculum objectives and can also be found on the classroom objective poster.
- Teachers should have 3 pieces of evidence in the portfolio for each objective to confidently and accurately assess the child.
Parent Teacher Conferences:
- Parent / Teacher Conferences should be held twice a year in November and in May.
- A Parent / Teacher Conversation Tool should be filled out for ALL children enrolled, even if their parent declines a conference.
- Conferences should be 20 minutes in length for each child.
Guidelines:
- Each child must have a portfolio within 30 days of enrollment.
- Label the binder with the portfolio cover sheet and the spine of the binder with the child’s first name and last initial.
- When a child transitions to a new classroom remove most of the content to send home with the family. Be sure to leave the assessment tool and a few examples of developmental mastery. Example: self-portrait or progression examples such as writing their name.
- When sending home the content of the portfolio, use the scrapbook cover sheet found on OEX to make a professional assessment package. Hole-punch the side of the pages and use ribbon to hold the package together.
For more information on Parent Teacher Conferences, you can go to Google Drive > Shared With Me > Assessments and Portfolios. You can also visit the Education Training Portal to review the 3 part Assessment and Portfolio training. Your Center Director will give you more information on which week in May you will be holding Parent Teacher Conferences.

Teacher Spotlight
Ms. Marquita is our Young Preschool 2 Teacher at our Murfreesboro, TN location. Marquita has worked with young children for 3 years, and she loves it when they can repeat the steps of an activity back to her the next day after she taught them something new. Ms. Marquita is a loving and fun teacher for our older Young Preschool children. She works very hard with them to help get them ready to progress to the Preschool classroom. They dance and sing and have lots of fun during curriculum time and that just makes everybody happy! Thank you for all that you do Ms. Marquita!
