A Message from the Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools

Dear BCSD Families and Residents,

During our June 14th Board of Education meeting, we will enthusiastically unveil the culminating work of our 2016-17 Strategic Planning Committee. Please see the detailed information below.

We continue to work hard to constructively engage our community for the betterment of our schools and District. This month we conducted our final meeting of the 2016-17 First Responders Safety and Security Task Force. This is a group of first responders from all of our towns, including county, state and local police, school operational leaders, town leaders, and individuals from other regional emergency management departments. The Task Force comes together several times per year to ensure the safety, security, and emergency preparedness of our schools and school community. We wish to thank those community members who reached out to us to provide positive feedback on the traffic light changes at the entrance to Fox Lane campus, which was a topic addressed during our Task Force meetings.

Our Budget Advisory Committee will come together for the final wrap-up meeting of the school year to reflect on our process and to begin to plan for the future

We are always proud of the achievements of our students. In this Edition of the Superintendent's Scoop, you will find a listing of Fox Lane High School's recent inductees into the National Honor Society, FLHS Award and Senior Scholarship winners, as well as a listing of current colleges/universities to which Fox Lane students will matriculate in the fall.

We all enjoy this exciting time of year with so many student events, performances, activities, and awards celebrations. Please see our District calendar on our website for these enjoyable events.

To keep informed, check out our District Facebook Page, Twitter Feed, and our school and parent association web pages/newsletters. Also, subscribe to our events calendar and athletics calendar. You may find Board meeting materials and subcommittee minutes in Board Docs.

Please accept our appreciation for your support for BCSD.

Sincerely,

BCSD Strategic Planning

We are excited to unveil the final products of our 2016-17 BCSD Strategic Planning Committee. The 2016-17 Strategic Planning Committee consists of constituents from all segments of the school community, including high school students, staff, administrators, Board members, parent organization leaders and participants, and community leaders who came together to engage in a comprehensive Strategic Planning process for BCSD.

The Strategic Planning Committee functioned under the direction of Board of Education Committee Chair, President, Ms. Colette Dow and Committee facilitator, Dr. Christopher Manno, Superintendent of Schools. The overarching purposes of strategic planning were to:

  • Uncover shared values

  • Recommit to a refreshed Mission, or purpose, for why we exist as an educational institution

  • Clarify a Vision for the achievement of the Mission

  • Identify critical issues that must be addressed through near-term and long-term goals and objectives

This work will drive our District and building objectives for the coming 1-5 years. Objectives are identified under Four BIG Goals Areas:

  1. Improve Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Programs

  2. Improve Climate and Safety

  3. Improve Community Engagement, Communications, and Transparency

  4. Improve Fiscal, H.R., and Operational Oversight and Management

Committee Work Products

  1. Refreshed Overarching Philosophical Constructs - Core Values and Beliefs, Mission, and Vision
  2. A synthesis of objectives to be accomplished over near, mid, and long-range timeframes under FOUR BIG Goal Areas.
  3. The Pillar of our Strategic Planning Work: The BCSD Success Plan 2017 - a one-page document, which makes our direction and works transparent and accessible to all.

Our Strategic Planning products are a synthesis of the work of:

  • The BCSD 2016-17 Strategic Planning Committee

  • 2016-17 Budget Advisory Committee

  • 2016-17 Space and Enrollment Advisory Committee

  • 2016-17 Student Achievement Advisory Committee

  • 2017 Leadership Team Goals Convocation

The administration shall engage in the process of action planning to accomplish goals and objectives outlined in the Strategic Plan.

NOTICE: Balloon Test

Sprint Wireless is proposing to build a new cell tower on the Fox Lane Campus next to the existing cell towers. The tower will also support the emergency services communications network for Westchester County. As part of the review of the project, we have requested Sprint to conduct a balloon test to show the height of the proposed tower. The balloon test will take place on Saturday, June 3 from 9 am to 5 pm (weather permitting). The balloon test will consist of flying one 3 ft. red weather balloon at a height of 99’ using a non-stretchable line to provide a location point and visual scale.
