@your School Library
Peters Colony - September 2016
Welcome to the new school year!
*Please let me know if you need any print or nonprint resources - "Have car and will travel" to the public library for you, if need be. I can also order materials from other schools through intercampus loans.
*If you need a title and it is not available in our library, I will put it in my Consideration File and order it with library funds.
*If you ever see the words: Research or Poetry in your curriculum ............Who you gonna call????? Lizzy the Librarian, that's who! I love to collaborate and will be more than happy to plan &/or teach a Research Boot Camp for your class or be a Poetress Presenter for your students. I can also collaborate with you on any other concept as well. Just give me a call, or better yet - an email!
*Orientations are going very well. I'm sure I have overloaded your sweet students with policies and procedures, but I will continue to discuss them with your students as they visit the library.
*Teachers kindly remain with your class during their weekly "Book Exchange". I may not always be in the library when you come. Weekly "Book Exchange" will begin after orientations are completed.
*Students may come in on passes anytime that you choose, but they need to be aware that if there is not an adult supervisor in the library, they need to return to class.
We have some awesome "Campus Based Subscriptions"
The following are the databases that our school pays for in addition to others that the district subscribes to:
Bookflix
Brainpop
*As a side note, the following link still works for accessing Tumble Books but probably not for long, as most libraries are now requiring your library card number to utilize this feature:
http://www.tumblebooks.com/library/auto_login.asp?U=lewisvillepl&P=libra
Please be aware that I will not be posting the above usernames/passwords on my live S'more newsletter, for obvious reasons. If you ever misplace them and need me to give them to you again, just ask!

Literacy, Learning and Local Events .............Oh My!
September 9: Movie in the Park night! I love these movie in the park nights. Grab a couple of blankets, snacks, and the kids and head on over to see The Angry Birds Movie at The Colony 5 Star Sports Complex. It begins at 7:45 pm and best of all, it is free!
September 15: Join us in celebrating International Dot Day!!! For those of you who are unfamiliar with this joyful occasion, the website describes the event this way: "The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to 'make her mark'. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper .......ignited a journey of self-discovery & sharing, which has inspired countless children around the globe!"
Also on September 15: Are you deserving a special date night with your special someone? Then you might want to check out the Castle Hills Date Night: Art & Tasting Walk. There will be free entertainment and an "over 21" tasting.
September 17: Calling all pet lovers: The Colony is finally getting their very own dog park, Pawsome Playground Dog Park. Don't miss the ribbon cutting at 9:15. There will be vendors, activities and more.
September 18: Have you ever heard of a Bow-Wow Luau? You are invited to bring your dog to a Hawaiian themed party, at Hawaiian Falls in TC, benefiting The Colony Animal Shelter Injured Animal Fund. Tickets are $15 in advance. Who wants to join me, the kids, and our dog, Rover?
September 19-24: If anyone is going to be around Abilene during those dates, then consider yourself lucky. The annual, week-long celebration of the West Texas Book Festival will be taking place. There will be authors, publishers and readers from across Texas to bring awareness to literacy and library programs.
September 29-October 1st: The Texas Grand Slam Poetry Fest takes place in Bryan, Texas, and their website describes the event as "a 3 day poetry feast featuring 42 poets with the gumption to compete for the title: Texas Grand Slam Poetry Champion and a $1200 Grand Prize". Hmmm......any poets in our midst here at Peters Colony?
September 30: Let's kick it back old school and go to a Drive-In Movie Theater. The Colony will be hosting a free, Drive-In Movie Theater, event featuring Captain America: Civil War at Stewart Park, 7:30 pm. Family Fun!
What's New?
Contacting Me....
In the spirit of being open & honest: I LOVE helping students and staff but I'm also very forgetful!!!! So please send me an email if you want me to remember what we discuss.
LEAVE ME A NOTE........
In a pinch, if you need to leave me a note in lieu of an email, just put it in my giant clothespin on the circulation desk. I will be giving you a barcode to check out books, in the meantime, if you need to quickly grab a book, please write your name and the barcode number of the book (or snap a photo of it & send to me) on a piece of paper and leave it in the clothespin so that I can check it out to you. It is important that I always know where all the books are in case someone else comes looking for it. Thank you for understanding!
