Captain's Log
PASS CHRISTIAN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
AHOY, PIRATES!
Happy holidays! Brrrrrr! Winter is drawing near!
As I reviewed each school's Facebook page this week, I ran across a video from DES that taught a lesson in just a few seconds. In Mrs. Meyer's class, the children were faced with a multi-variable problem to solve. They were gathered around what appeared to be a purple egg on the top of a tissue tube that was in a foil pan sitting on top of a glass container of water. The object of the challenge was to knock the pan from over the container of water so that the egg would fall into the container. One young lady approached the problem, looked at it, analyzed it, then took one confident swipe, and BOOM! The pan was swiped to the side and the egg fell into the container. The room exploded with cheers of disbelief - with the biggest congratulatory reaction coming from a classmate who possibly did not believe the feat possible. In her moment of success, she quietly walked away without cheering or saying a word - a mic drop of sorts.
Much like the young learner, our middle school English teachers, counselor, and administrative team have been working to reduce class size by unraveling the double blocked classes, which are oversized. Rather than looking for ways that it would not or could not work, this team of courageous educators has found a path to provide more individualized attention to our students. Their work has helped us to begin to reimagine our intervention and acceleration processes as well. Thank you to all who have been involved in this process. I challenge each of us to address our challenges in the same manner: approach them, analyze them, address them, and then move forward. In other words, imagine, believe, and achieve. Stay the course and lean in! The video link is below - enjoy!
With that, I submit the Log. #stayhungry #eXcellencemarksthespot #committedtoeXcellence cje
