Rockstars Choosing to Matter in Room 25
Happy Kids
If you're anything like me, more than anything else you want for your kids is simply for them to be happy. I would probably add a few other descriptors there, but most of all, I hope they discover happiness and live that joy outwardly in their lives. But sometimes I struggle with knowing how to help cultivate that in my kids.
When I came across this time.com article, I thought you might find it as helpful as I did. Don't have time to read the whole thing? Here's the summary:
- Get Happy Yourself
- Teach Them To Build Relationships
- Expect Effort, Not Perfection
- Teach Optimism
- Teach Emotional Intelligence
- Form Happiness Habits
- Teach Self-Discipline
- More Playtime
- Rig Their Environment For Happiness
- Eat Dinner Together
I especially liked #3 and 8. Enjoy!
The Ruth Lilly Health Education Center: Ready, Set, Grow!
Noble Crossing and all Noblesville Elementary Schools are partnering again this year with The Ruth Lilly Health Education Center to bring Ready, Set, Grow! to our 4th grade students and Life Begins to our 5th grade students. Ready, Set, Grow! is a program that teaches heredity, the emotional and physical changes of puberty, reproductive anatomy and hygiene. Life Begins teaches students about the anatomy of the male and female reproductive systems, the physical and emotional changes of puberty, and human growth and development from conception to birth. Noble Crossings’ programs will be on February 16th and 17th. Noblesville School’s Parent Night is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18th at White River Elementary. The fourth grade parent meeting is from 6:00 – 7:00. The 5th grade parent meeting is from 7:30 – 8:30. These meetings are open to all parents of 4th and 5th grade students. This will be an opportunity for parents to learn more about the presentations and ask questions about the programs.
This Week's Set List (December 19-22)
Week at a Glance/Skills for the Week:
LITERACY – We will complete our novel study of Maniac Magee. In small groups, students will have a chance to perform a reader's theatre from one of the scenes that best demonstrates the theme of the book. I can't wait to see what they come up with! I am hoping to send videos out - so keep your eyes out.
WRITING – We have finished both personal essays and argumentative essays. Students have grown tremendously in this area, and I am proud of their "big kid" writing! Beware: some essays are geared to requesting new pets or devices! ;)
MATH – We will finish Unit 6, which focuses on data gathering and analysis/interpretation. We will test on Wednesday, December 21st.
SPELLING – No spelling this week.
SCIENCE – Students have finished the unit on weathering and erosion in science.
SOCIAL STUDIES – We are currently taking a break from Social Studies, and will resume later in the year.
TIPS - This week in TIPS, we will work on additional reading strategies and skills.
Upcoming Events
December 21st: Wrapping party for adopt-a-family gifts
December 22nd: Field Trip to State Museum and Winter Party
December 23rd - January 10th: Christmas Break
Yoga Club
Along with Mrs. Bushong - certified yoga instructor and owner of Shine Yoga Wellness and Studio - I am offering a Yoga Club to 3rd - 5th graders. Classes begin January 17th and end February 16th, and offer students practical skills to calm and center themselves as they head into testing season. Students today experience anxiety and stress in many ways; this offers tools to help them learn to combat the pressure they face each day.
