Ivan Green Fall Newsletter

Message from the Principal
Dear Ivan Green families,
A lot has happened in the past month of school: Students are learning the routines and procedures of the classroom and are getting to know their new teachers and classmates. Friendships are being made and focus on learning their roles as a student is emerging. All students have been screened in the areas of reading and math to determine their strengths and weaknesses in these areas. Our Primary Years Programme units of inquiry through written planners have begun as well. We have been fortunate to have great weather this past month allowing for lots of time on the playground as well as the classroom. We believe that all children thrive by learning in an environment that promotes physical health and well being as well as academic challenge and support.
We also continue to teach positive behaviors throughout the building through the framework of PBIS ( Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports). Students are practicing having H.E.A.R.T. ( honesty, empathy, acting safely, responsibility, and thinker) in common areas such as the cafeteria, hallways, bathrooms, and during assemblies.
We began our B.E.A.R. ( Be Enthusiastic About Reading) program this month. Every Ivan Green student brings home a BEAR book each night to share with a family member. Parents can read the book or listen to their child read the book or do a shared reading. This is a great time to promote the love of reading with your child and for you to have some quality alone time with your child. An older sibling is also a great alternative if you are too busy some nights!
We want you to know that we, as a faculty and staff work diligently every day to ensure that your child has a positive learning experience at Ivan Green Primary. If you have any issues or concerns that arise, please communicate with your child's teacher. Feel free to contact me as well in the event that a problem is not resolved at deborah_decker@eastiron.monroe.edu or call me at #339-1310.
Dressing for the Weather
Children very often want to decide on their own attire for school. Please make sure that their choices are appropriate for the school day which includes outerwear as well for recess outside.
A note from Mrs. Pearson...
When to Keep a Child Home Due to Illness
*Fever greater than 100 degrees F. Your child cannot return to school until fever free for 24 hours without taking medication.
*Significant cough that would make your child feel uncomfortable or disrupt the class.
*Sore throat that is severe, accompanied by fever or lasts longer than 48 hours. If your child has a throat culture done, please wait for the results before returning to school. A child with strep throat must take antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school even if the child feels better.
*Discharge or redness of eyes or eye lids.
*Nasal discharge, especially if there is sinus pain or headache.
