Principal Allen's Weekly Newsletter

September 30 , 2019

Dear Spicewood Elementary Parents & Community Members,

Last week we had several events happening on campus and our students certainly enjoyed them all!

I would like to say thank you to our PTA and parents who helped make Book Fair, KISS Cookout, and Spirit Night a huge success. We can't make these events happen without you! Have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Allen

Spicewood Elementary Principal

Vision and Hearing

Will be Thursday, Oct 3rd & Friday, Oct 4th. Only students in K, 1st, 3rd & 5th will be screened.

Students should bring eyeglasses if they wear them. If your child needs any accommodations with Vision and Hearing Screening, please contact the school nurse.

Please check your child’s health concerns before they leave for school. If your student is ill, or running a fever please keep him/her home. We keep no medications on campus other than what you provide to the nurse for your child.

RRISD District Policy as written in the Student/Parent Handbook:

Students with a temperature of 100 degrees or above will be sent home. To prevent the spread of communicable disease, ill students must be symptom free from fever, vomiting, and diarrhea FOR 24 HOURS without the use of temperature-reducing medications before returning to school.

Ordering Student Photos Online

Parent's get ready! Photo Texas will be on campus on October 9th for individual student fall photos! For your convenience, you can order your photos online:

Eating Lunch With Your Student

If you plan to have lunch with your student, please remember the following:

  • All visitors must sign in in the front office.
  • Visitors may only eat with their student. IF you want to invite your student's friend to have lunch with you, the student must have a written note from his/her parent that gives them permission to eat with you. This is to protect all students. Please be respectful towards our Cafeteria Monitors when they reinforce this expectation.
  • Parents may not sit at cafeteria tables with students- there is simply not enough room. You are welcome to enjoy lunch in the Atrium, picnic tables in the front and behind the school or at the tables in the main hallway.

Reporting Student Absences

When your child is absent for any reason that you must contact the office each day that your child is absent. Please notify the office of in one of the following ways:

Because students met their fundraiser goals, Spicewood administrators had to pay up! As promised, Ms. Cruz ate a bug on Thursday and of course I wore my glitter/princess/unicorn costume on Friday! We love making our students say "Wow!" Thanks again to our parents, family and community members who donated and made the Adventure Fundraiser a success!

This week 5th Graders wrapped up their Unit of Inquiry "Who We Are" exploring their central idea "Beliefs and values influence human interaction." Students shared their culture and family stories with classmates while enjoying traditional food from around the world.
