If you have access to the internet, your child can log onto our online learning apps during break as well. IXL, Reflex Math, and Moby Max are available to help keep your child learning and practicing skills during the break.
Winter Testing

Physical Education Matters
Although our games have been more limited this year, we are playing a lot more team sports, which the students are loving! We just finished a team handball and basketball unit. We are now playing soccer (3rd grade) and hockey (2nd grade) for the next few weeks. We are talking about teamwork and how each member of the team contributes in some way to help the whole team.
Our athletes of the week over the last four weeks have been Lyla Lewis, Jailah Einig, Lucas Jasinksi, and Caedyn Foote.
Even though the weather is getting colder, it is still important to get out and exercise (or stay inside and exercise). Nike training app has some great programs you can do as a family inside with no equipment. Exercise helps our minds stay focused and gives us more endorphins to keep us happy during these dreary winter months.

Second grade students are getting in the holiday spirit! We talked about the importance of space and size to create these festive trees. They also used lines and patterns to make a fun border! They are just getting started, but these are going to look great!

Third grade students are learning about form while making a holiday candy cane! They used curved lines and value to give their candy canes a 3D look! Check out these color candy canes!
A Note About Music
Hello from the music room! In the month of November 2nd graders have learned about musical form with tall tale songs. They also listened to songs from the Caribbean and Brazil and played along with egg shakers. We watched a video song about Kindness to celebrate World Kindness Day. We celebrated Thanksgiving by listening to call and response songs and playing xylophones.
During November 3rd graders were introduced to a new solfege pitch - but the name is a secret! We learned about songs called spirituals and listened to a Thanksgiving song in the style of the Blues. We celebrated World Kindness Day with a video song about Kindness and we celebrated Thanksgiving by learning songs with solfege patterns and using xylophones.
*Don't forget that on the days students are not in school they can check their Music Google Classrooms for some extra music.

Media Moments
Greetings from media class! Students have been busy learning in the computer lab. The next few weeks we will be learning how to code using the Hour of Code website: https://code.org/learn. The website can also be found on the Wayland Union Schools media page called Information Place https://sites.google.com/waylandunion.org/libraries/home. Most students have also added media class to their Google Classroom app. I will continue to add educational activities that students can do at home to the media Google Classroom for their grade level.
Here are the Google Classroom codes.
