Key Information:
- Update (Graffiti) - You may have heard that there was an incident of graffiti on Tuesday morning. There were some vulgar pictures and words written in sidewalk chalk. We were able to clean up three of the four locations (there was one we didn't see, but cleaned it up as soon as it was reported). Using the security camera, we found that it was a young adult, who had hopped the fence. We worked with the police to determine it was a local boy who had attended BT many years ago. I indicated that if the boy met with me, we would not press charges. We met and it was productive. He showed remorse and I am confident he won't do it again.
- Pond - we have one now.
- Meadow - we have roughly 1,000 plants (that is correct - three 0's) that will be part of the Healthy Habitat Meadow (that will also be a certified Monarch Way Station). Nectars and volunteers will be planting on Saturday, June 9 from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm. Just fyi.
- Bathroom - The bathrooms will be redone this summer. One in each building is being started now. Our is in the 100 wing. They will be doing the work between 4-11 pm, but the bathroom will be closed. They are starting now to ensure it gets done by September.
- Library Pack Up - We'll be officially packing up the books and moving them out next week (June 5th). I appreciate everyone's flexibility, as we'll finish the year w Media in the classrooms. It will all be worth it when we get our NEW MEDIA CENTER!
- Comprehensive TIP Meeting - Monday, June 11th in D-1.
The schedule is below. Floating subs will come to cover each homeroom teacher during the scheduled grade level TIP meeting time. Remember times may shift slightly.
8:40 - 9:30 Kindergarten
9:40 - 10:30 2nd grade
10:40 - 11:30 1st grade
11:40 - 12:30 LUNCH Break
12:40 - 1:30 3rd grade
1:40 - 2:30 4th grade
2:40 - 3:30 TIP wrap-up
- Summer Reading! - We will continue with some of our summer reading initiatives (we'll still have the reader's breakfast in the fall, we'll have another online book club for grades 3-5, etc), but we'll be having a BOOK-B-Q on Tuesday, July 24th from 5-7 pm. I'll set up a meeting soon, but wanted everyone to save the date. Anyone is welcome and I hope to have some staff members facilitate sharing of what kids have read, etc. The overall objective is to get together and have fun talking about reading. And I'll be on the grill (hot dogs only this time...)
- Lost Sunglasses - Mikey V. lost his blue Oakley sunglasses in the gym on field day. I told him I'd ask staff to ask their classes if any turned up or if anyone had any information. Thank you.
Article of the Week
Quote of the Week:
Note from the Principal:
Happy Friday and Aloha!
It's June!
On the drive to Barnes and Noble my son was reflecting upon how he has a special event every day next week. Between concerts, trips, activities, etc. the next few weeks will be busy and will move fast. Be sure to work hard to be present and to stay centered through it all. The end of the year is a special time, and you don't want to miss it worrying about things that you can't control or focusing on tomorrow. There are many great opportunities right in front of us today!
Remember, culture is a conscious decision. Being positive and supportive takes work and thought. Let's work hard to remember to smile, to take care of ourselves and each other, and to remind each other that we don't want negative talk, frustration or 'drama' to creep in to our school over the next few weeks. We have so many great things going on and exciting things coming up, it is critical (for us and for our students) that we finish strong!
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Chris
