Report Cards Are Going Paperless
The Beaverton School District is transitioning to electronic report cards for all students. This upcoming Progress period will be the last time we will be printing and mailing paper progress reports/report cards. The electronic report cards will be accessed through ParentVUE (mobile and desktop). If parents/guardians have not set up their ParentVUE account, they will need to do so by January 2020.
There are resources and guidance on how to set up a ParentVue account. Please view the FAQ for instructions on setting up an account.
There are several benefits to moving to paperless report cards. Families will be able to view grades days after grading days, rather than wait up to two weeks for a report card to come by mail or in their child’s backpack. In addition, moving away from paper is environmentally friendly and cost-effective for the District.
Please encourage parents/guardians to contact their school if they need help setting up or accessing their ParentVUE account or need assistance with a printed copy. We will be sharing more information about this transition in the coming weeks.
AP Exams
Honors Diploma Applicants
Senior students interested in earning the Westview Honors Diploma in the spring must get their Service Learning applications approved before counting hours. ACE Mentorship Program for Students in Grades 11 & 12
Do you know a junior or senior who is interested in Architecture, Construction or Engineering (ACE)? If so, the ACE Mentor Program might interest them. Students can design a building, learn valuable work skills, and explore careers in architecture, construction and engineering.
ACE is a FREE after-school program for high school juniors and seniors interested in Architecture, Construction and Engineering (ACE). Student teams collaborate on a building design project under the guidance of industry professionals. ACE also offers college scholarships for seniors and summer camp opportunities for juniors.
ACE STUDENTS gain valuable career skills, network with professionals, and explore ACE careers.
ACE MENTORS give back to their community, inspire the next generation, and attract new talent to the industry.
The program runs January – May 2020 and applications are due Friday, November 22, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. Students are placed on a Tuesday or Thursday team with 10-15 students from different high schools and 7-10 mentors from a mix of architecture, construction, and engineering firms. Teams meet 13 times (once a week or once every two weeks) from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Light meals are served at each meeting and supplies are provided. Prior experience and outside homework are not required. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from meetings.
Meetings are held in downtown Portland at ACE mentors’ offices and job sites. Students have the opportunity to visit multiple professional workplaces, learn how to network, and explore career paths within the ACE industry. Teams design a building together, and students present their projects to a large audience at the program finale in May.
ACE will hold an optional Student/Family Information Session on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Merlo Station High School, 1841 SW Merlo Dr., Beaverton.
For more information, visit the ACE Mentor Program website at acementor.org/Portland-or, or refer students to your school’s college and career coordinator/counselor.
Aloha High School Automotive Technology Program
Students, staff and community members gathered at the Aloha High School Automotive Technology Program Open House Celebration on Tuesday, October 29, to celebrate the newly remodeled ASE Educational Foundation (NATEF) facility, meet community and industry partners and learn about the Automotive Technology Program.
Representatives from community colleges and automotive schools hosted tables with information about credits required to complete an automotive degree. Additionally, representatives from local businesses had information regarding internships and job shadowing opportunities that are vital to a student's working knowledge of an auto shop and job expectations.
The Aloha High School Automotive Technology Program is the only NATEF certified program in the state of Oregon. NATEF (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation) is a non-profit organization that assesses automotive training programs against industry standards. There are several benchmarks that must be met by a program in order to become initially certified and then every 3-5 years a reassessment is performed to ensure a high quality of education and enforcement of rigid guidelines.
At the Open House, Ford Motor Company launched their new Ford ACE (Automotive Career Exploration) partnership, which raises awareness and increases opportunities within the automotive industry and moves students one step closer to jobs as entry-level automotive service technicians at Ford/Lincoln dealerships. Locally, Landmark Ford and Dick's Mackenzie Ford sponsor the Aloha High School Automotive Technology Program and will be available at the Open House.
The Ford ACE partnership joins the already thriving America Honda and Cummins Factory Curriculum.

Tech Thirty Thursday
The Creative Space in S216 is up and running. Do you have a student working on a project? Would they just like to spend some time creating items with our craft supplies? S216 will be open on most A days during both lunches for students to stop by and use the space to support their creativity and learning.
Digital Citizenship
Information literacy is quickly becoming one of the most important topics to cover in schools across the United States. The threats of fake news, social media misinformation, and lightning-fast information transmission have made digital tools dangerous to handle — unless you handle them correctly. As your students work on researching topics, it is helpful to remind them of the BSD databases available to them here: http://bit.ly/researchbsd19 Loaded with librarian approved sources (and access codes for BSD students using resources at home, also located here: http://bit.ly/codes19 ), using these resources will help them navigate confusing informational sources.
Done with Halloween? Don’t know what to do with your costume?
Think about donating it to our Creation Space! Students could use the costumes for movie making. Always warmly accepting donations of crafts and other arts supplies as well.
Want to De-clutter? Send your Used Board Games or Craft Supplies to WHS library
WHS library and Creative Space is accepting donations of board games and/or craft supplies to use on projects with our students. Either/or would be warmly accepted at the WHS library.
