Advanced Academics
Using HyperText Markup Language, known as html, 5th graders wrote the code and tags to design original web pages. Each student's web page consists of ten word problems for visitors to solve. Additionally, the web designers added images and design elements to their pages.
Advanced Writing-
Third, 4th and 5th grade advanced writing students focused on expository writing and wrote a five paragraph essay on a topic of personal interest. Concentrating on the elements of expository writing, students focused on organization, voice and conventions to complete the assignments.

4th graders Experiement With Sound
K-2
Boys and girls are using clock puzzles and large clocks to set their day-planners, recognizing that somethings take place at the same time every day. After setting their schedules, boys and girls counted coins and added money.
1st graders get caught using amazing words!
As part of the Reading Street reading program, students are provided challenge words to expand vocabulary. Among the fun activities used in class is the mind reader game where teachers give five clues and challenge students to guess the word.
2nd graders are adding and subtracting two digit numbers!
Students are rising to the challenge of adding and subtracting two digit numbers- with and without regrouping! Knowing basic math facts is the key to success and students are hitting those Moby Max speed drills to become proficient!

Moby Max Comes to STS
Teachers can monitor student progress and can maximize student learning based on Moby Max results. In the case where a student is not progressing, the teacher can modify and adjust his or her teaching methods to better meet the individual needs of the student.
Parents can log on and keep track of student progress as well!
3-5
Along with reading Mr. Popper and his Penguins, students created flat penguins to mail throughout the United States and around the world. Third grade penguins have been known to end up as far away as China and return with souvenirs from smiling relatives.
4th grade students discuss citizen heroes
Fourth graders discussed the role of citizens as heroes, and how a brave citizen can change the course of events. Students recognized the gift of religious freedom and thanked citizen heroes.
5th grade students are using Venn Diagrams to compare and contrast folktales
Students journeyed around the world discovering folk tales from different countries and wrote compare and contrast expository paragraphs based on their Venn Diagram and discussion from their literature circles.
Middle School
What’s Happening in Middle School Literature
All students in the 6th, 7th & 8th grades are engaged in their 3rd quarter novel unit. In addition to reading their novels and maintaining literature journals, students are placed in groups so that they can work on projects together and be involved in literature circles.
6th Grade
The 6th graders are reading The Bronze Bow (by Elizabeth George Spears). Students show their mastery of the story through projects ranging from 3D models of the Synagogue at Capernaum to a virtual museum of ancient Palestinian artifacts created with PowerPoint slides.
7th Grade
Seventh graders are reading Crispin: The Cross of Lead (by Avi), another historical fiction account set in 14th century England. Students use research and imagination to create 3D models and PowerPoint presentations.
8th Grade
Students have been placed in groups and are reading several novels by author Richard Peck. Depending on the novel, they are assigned such book-based projects as a Trivial Pursuit game, a movie poster, and a readers’ theater production.

6th grade
Sixth grade students are working on Spanish prayers as well as subject verb agreement and the present tense. Students enjoyed a culture unit of the flamingo and bullfighting.
7th grade
Seventh grade students are working on gender and number of nouns, and adjective agreement along with naming articles of clothing.
8th grade
Eighth grade is expressing their likes and dislikes and discussing simple pastimes and sports. This supports the grammar work in adjectives and definite articles.
And in Math-
6th grade
Sixth graders are working on permutations and combinations. In addition, students were introduced to square roots and rational numbers, and made function tables and graphed the results.
7th grade
Students explored scatter, stem and leaf and whisker plots. Frequency tables and line plots were used to organize data. Students then created histograms.
Pre-Algebra students worked on finding surface area of prisms and cylinders.
8th grade
Eighth graders graphed one and two variable inequalities and investigated the Pythagorean Theorem.
Algebra students discovered systems and various ways to solve, including graphing method, and substitution method
Geometry students finished up with circles, specifically arcs and central angles and are now finding the areas of trapezoids, rhombus, and regular polygon
And Social Studies-
6th graders
By studying Byzantine and Muslim civilizations, 6th graders are finding out how Constantinople and the Byzantine Empire became so powerful. Additionally students discovered the achievements of the Age of Justinian.
7th grade
Seventh graders are understanding the efforts needed to launch a the new US government. Students are able to explain why political parties developed in spite of
the fact that many Americans distrusted political parties.
8th grade
Eighth grade students have relived the Great Depression and evaluated the effects of the New Deal and the effects of the depression on women in America and its influence on the arts.
And in Language Arts the 6 Traits Rule!
Middle school students are incorporating the concepts of the 6 Traits + 1 Writing Program into their daily writing. Students recently focused on the trait of organization in their persuasive writing essays. By focusing on organization, students developed strong, logical arguments that give the reader correct information and resolution to a question.
