New Beginnings
Easter Egg Hunts
If your family is anything like mine you spent Easter Sunday rushing to make it to church on time, running from house to house, eating entirely too much food, and hunting for tons and tons of eggs. Someone at church this morning though brought up a good point, do you know why there is a tradition of hunting eggs on Easter? Without getting into too much of a sermon, because you don't want to hear me try and preach, he said that the egg referenced the tomb and resurrection and was a symbol of new beginnings. In the education world we think that new beginnings need to take place at the beginning of the year or perhaps the beginning of a new semester, but this is not the case. A new beginning can take place whenever we feel there is a need for some sort of change. I had a real talk with myself today while the deacon was speaking, it's time for a new beginning for me. I've allowed stress and excuses to negatively affect my eating and exercise habits and that in turn is having a negative impact on my daily life. So it's time for a new beginning for me, time to reset and restart watching what I eat and committing to exercise at least three times a week. I know if I can do this it will help me to be a better husband, dad, principal, and leader. Is there anything in your life that you want to start a new beginning with? At work or in your personal life, write it down and share it with someone. The picture below is a perfect quote of how to get started!
Sunrises
In Dr. Hollingsworth's message this week he talked about an Easter sunrise he always got to watch with his church growing up. He ended his message with a quote about sunrises that I thought was very inspirational and relevant to the amazing work you all do every day. He said "Every day in our schools we have the opportunity to pick a perfect spot, light a fire, offer warmth and fellowship, and give our students a perfect view of what's about to appear over the horizon." Go out and pick your spots this week and let's prepare our students for what's ahead.
