Healthcare Update

General Update

Since August, the healthcare associates have spent time learning professional skills from the professionals, had a plethora of guest speakers and site visits, and a few opportunities to volunteer. Focus has been on career exploration in a variety of healthcare career paths as well as polishing their critical thinking skills with authentic Emergency Department projects and a Scientific Literature Analysis paper.

Mock Interview Event

This event included bringing professionals from multiple fields to evaluate students on professionalism and interviewing skills.

Business Partner Highlight - BJC Healthcare

SCC CAPS Healthcare appreciates BJC President Chris Watts, Kristin Williams, and Theresa Daly for their involvement and support for this program.

Business Partner Highlight - St. Charles County Ambulance District (SCCAD)

Crosby Chiropractic & Acupuncture Center

Dr. Crosby and her staff presented to associates on the history and benefits of chiropractic care, acupuncture, and how chiropractors work as a team with other physicians and therapists. Theresa Mesler gave a presentation on the importance of nutrition for whole body health.

Delmar Gardens and Villas of O'Fallon

Associates experienced skilled nursing in the long-term care setting at Delmar Gardens and assisted care setting at Delmar Villas. John Daniels discussed the differences between Medicare and Medicaid and special considerations in working with older adults. Students also got to experience what it is like to live as an older adult with insight from a physical therapist, nurse, and social workers.

CAPS Associates Give Back!

Kids Against Hunger

Associates from all 3 strands helped Kids Against Hunger pack over 122,000 meals headed to kids in need in Haiti. This event was hosted by Lindenwood University and was organized by "Kids Against Hunger" and CAPS presenter and KAH Director, Dan Vincent.

Day of Play

Several Associates volunteered at Day of Play with BJC at the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Peter's. Day of Play is an event to promote healthy living through play. This event was organized by CAPS advocate and BJC Community Education and Events Supervisor, Theresa Daly.
