CIS News March 22, 2021

Message From Principal Hafer

Beginning on Thursday, March 25th, I will be out on medical leave until after spring break. In my absence, Mr. Dan Mares will be filling in at CIS. Mr. Mares currently works in our admin office and helps with technology and state and federal programs. We are looking forward to having Mr. Mares in the building and he will do a great job filling in!

This will be the last edition of CIS News until after spring break. If you have any questions, please contact your student's teacher and/or our building secretary at 269-468-2415.

Thank you for all you do to support our students here at CIS!

Sincerely,

Karra Hafer

Band News For 4th Grade Parents

Attention all 4th Grade Parents!!

It’s that exciting time of the year where your student gets introduced to the beginning band program at Coloma Intermediate! This is a great opportunity to put the performance of music in your student’s life every day and for both you and your student to consider enrolling in this program for their 5th grade year!

Students have already heard from current band members and have been discovering the different band instruments. During the week of March 22nd, students will see a short virtual concert by the current Coloma bands. Then on Thursday, March 25th, Friday, March 26th, and Monday, March 29th, students interested in joining the band will be fitted to a band instrument. If you do not want your student fit to an instrument, please let me know by Wednesday, March 24th.

After your student’s fitting, a letter will go home with what instrument your student has been fit to and had the best sound on. It also explains how to enroll in band! Those letters will need to be returned to your classroom teacher on, or before, Friday, April 16th. Any classes that have 100% returned on time will receive a treat during music class from Mrs. Keck. This due date is the week after spring break- so if your student happens to misplace their letter, electronic copies will be available on Mrs. Keck’s page on the CIS website. Or just send me an email!

It may seem early, but in order to get all student’s schedules ready for next year we have to start now. We are looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing our future Comet band kids!

Musically,

Mrs. Kaitlin M. Keck

Director of Bands

March is Reading Month

We are currently reading The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles! This book was written by Julie Andrews Edwards, known actress in movies such as Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, and The Princess Diaries. Students will have time to unleash their imaginations in reading this adventurous book by writing or drawing pictures as they read (or are being read to). We hope you enjoy the story. You can follow the pacing calendar to finish the book in four weeks, using weekends to catch up, if needed.

Updated Contact Information

If your contact information or your child's emergency contacts have changed over the course of the school year, please be sure to contact the main office to update your information. Valid contact information is vital this year in the event that your child becomes ill at school or if we need to make contact with you.

Yearbook Orders

This year, due to COVID and the restrictions in place, you will be able to order a CIS yearbook online at: www.geskusphoto.com/?YB=4041 Ordering online will help to keep down the exchange of paper and money between GPI, the students and the school. The cost of each yearbook is $10.00. Online ordering will be available up until the yearbook goes to print (we will let you know when that happens). After the yearbook is printed you will still be able to order a yearbook, but there will be a shipping fee and it will be mailed directly to the address you provide when ordering. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us.
