ELM MIDDLE SCHOOL’S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

October 7, 2022

Principal's Message

Greetings Elm Families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful week! As a reminder we have no school on Monday, October 10th. We will return to our regular schedule on Tuesday!

It was so wonderful to see all of our learners engaging in the classroom this week! Ms. Mesi had her students complete learning stlye inventories to identify the types of learners they are and then utilize that learning style to define different literary terms.

Next week on Friday our PAT will be selling treats for $1 Dollar, remind your students to support our PAT and get some snacks!

Addtionally, as a reminder our parking lot on the west side of the building is for staff use only. Please refrain from using this to drop off students.

Please take a few minutes to read through this week’s Cougar Courier. As always, should you need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly. Have a fabulous long weekend! Enjoy the beautiful weather! #TeamElmStrong

Most Sincerely,
Ms. Ashley Groeneveld

Assistant Principal's Corner- Cougar Connections Recap

Good afternoon Parents and Guardians,

This week was our first Cougar Connections where students were able to get individualized instruction and supports from their classroom instructors. Going forward, students who have academic needs will be invited, AND it will also be open to any interested students.

Parents and Guardians, I will be sending you all reminders as we get closer, we will be working towards a 90% attendance rate for students who need support. I will be providing you with information regarding opting out of the intervention if you choose to do so; otherwise, the students will be provided with the academic intervention on that day. Thank you all for your overwhelming support.

Please see the attached information; thank you to all the participants!

Dean's Den

Hello Elm Families,

We have had multiple instances of students contacting their families in the middle of the day to pick them up. Students will text their families (during class). Additionally, most of the time, students are not going to see the nurse when not feeling well. Family members will then come to the school to sign out their child, and we are not made aware that the student contacted the parent. This also causes confusion with attendance for the remainder of the day, as we do not know if the student is returning, or why they are no longer in school.

If a child is not feeling well, the correct step to take is to go see the nurse. From there, the nurse will be able to evaluate the student, and help make a decision whether or not they should return to class or go home. Ultimately, we want students in school if they are healthy enough to so that they don’t lose out on instructional times

Additionally, as the weather is getting colder, we recognize more students may start taking the bus. If your child has not yet taken the bus, but plans to in the future, they need to reach out for a bus pass. This way, we ensure there are enough seats for all of our students, and we have proper documentation for who rides what bus.

Have a great 3 day weekend!
