Goals
While seemingly unrelated, the Super Bowl and education share some commonalities, including extensive preparations, teamwork, goal setting, of course competition, performance under pressure, and celebrations. Our students and staff members learn together to make sure we support the growth of everyone. Both endeavors require dedication, effort, and a commitment to excellence.
Let's check in on some of our goals. Our school-wide focus is reading and writing. Our students are assessed in all subjects throughout the year. I am honored to share that on the 3 district unit assessments in English, our students out performed all other middle schools in Norfolk and have shown significant growth over last year's assessments.
Our latest English District Unit Assessment:
- 6th grade English, improved 12 points
- 7th grade English, improved by 19 points
- 8th grade English, improved by 13 points
- 6th grade math, improved by 12 points
- 6th grade math honors, improved by 24 points
- PreAlgebra6 math - improved by 9 points
- 7th grade math, improved by 8 points
- PreAlgebra7 math, improved by 21 points
- 8th grade math, improved by 30 points
- Algebra I math, improved by 15 points
- Geometry - improved by 44 points
It is so great to see our students focused on learning and our staff members working so hard to meet the needs of each and every students.

Let's Recognize...
A happy and well fed group of counselors! Our counselors are the best in the business! They are visible daily in the halls, always available to lend a helping hand, and ensure that ALL our students needs are met daily. Happy National Counselor’s Week! Thank-you for all that you do!
Drop a message to a counselor, thanking them for their hard work. The two minutes it takes to extend your gratitude is well worth the investment.

Congrats to our amazing Athletic Director, Mr. Straub! He was selected as the recipient of the award for Outstanding Service in Middle School Athletics. The Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (VIAAA) will honor him at their upcoming conference. This is an incredible honor. His leadership, patience, knowledge, and compassion continue to impact our student-athletes every day.
Thank-you to Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church for delivering snacks to our teachers and staff today as a part of their “Teachers Matter” ministry. Mrs. Bond from Mount Gilead said “Everyone who works in the building is a teacher.” We are so very grateful for our community partners!
