Third Week of Advent - Joy
The theme for this third week of Advent is joy. The candle is often called the “Shepherd's Candle,” and is pink because rose is a liturgical color for joy. The third Sunday of Advent is meant to remind us of the joy that the world experienced at the birth of Jesus, as well as the joy that the faithful have reached the midpoint of Advent.
VIRTUAL CHRISTMAS CONCERT
Our students have practiced and rehearsed with such joy and spirit and we are so thrilled to be able to share a virtual Christmas Concert with our families this year. The virtual concert will be aired on December 16th at 6:30pm. The link for viewing will be sent to our families prior to that date! Please remember to check your email!
GRADE 1B TELLS AND SHARES THE CHRISTMAS STORY
Our gr1B students learned about the Christmas story and created 3D dioramas to retell what they heard and what they learned. It is so exciting to hear our little learners talk about Jesus's birth and the long road to Bethlehem for Mary and Joseph. "For unto us on this day is born a Saviour"
GR 1 SCIENTISTS STUDY COLOR MIXING
Our Gr1 students melted crayons together and discovered many new colors. They predicted what might happen and then made observations, recording the data. Students observed that crayons got shorter and that new colors were made. They saw that yellow and red made the color orange, blue and red made weird purple and that it even smelled like fried chicken when the crayons melted. We love all the hands-on discovery that our students engaged in as they engage in their work.
Look at a CANDY CANE, what do you see? Stripes that are RED like the BLOOD shed for me!
WHITE for my Saviour, who's sinless and pure! "J" is for JESUS, my Lord, that's for sure!
Turn it around and a staff you will see...JESUS my Shepherd is coming for me.
SURFACE TENSION AND COHESION IN GRADE 5
You might think that you can’t fit many drops of water on the surface of a penny. Pennies are just so small! In the Drops on a Penny experiment during their Classroom Chemistry unit, grade 5 students learned how many can fit by adding one drop at a time.... surface tension and cohesion in action!
GIFTS FROM JESUS
Religion 9 students created a bulletin board for our community that speaks to the many gifts that Jesus brings, at Christmas and throughout the year. The many gifts that we are blessed with include Love, Peace, Caring, Hope, Forgiveness, Compassion and so many more. We see these gifts of Jesus everyday at Holy Family School in the actions and the words of our students.
KEEPING OUR COMMUNITY SAFE
Working together helps us all stay safe while taking care of each other. Students should be screened every day by completing a checklist before going to school and may need a parent or guardian to assist them to complete the screening tool.
