Characterization
Clause – Clause is kind of a geek, he loves to read and loves learning. That is a big factor in the story. He is a white 12-year-old boy with blond hair. He is also the protagonist.
Violet- Violet is a smart girl, she is about 15 years old. She is super smart and loves learning. This is also very important in the story. Violet is a really good big sister to Sunny. Violet is also the protagonist in this story.
Count Olaf – Count Olaf is a very mean man. He has an an eyeball tattooed on his foot. All he wants to do is steal the three kids money because they are very rich. Once their mom and dad died they inherited all of the money. Count Olaf is their new guardian and he is focused on stealing the money.
Setting
The setting of the book is in the present. The book takes place at Dr. Montgomery's huge house. A lot of the book takes place in the reptile room. This is where Dr. Montgomery likes to keep all of his reptiles and poisons.
Conflict and Plot
The main conflict takes place when the siblings struggle to survive after their parents die! The kids have to go live with their uncle, Dr. Montgomery. The uncle's assistant tried many different things to steal the kids inheritance. He poisoned Dr. Montgomery and was planning to run away with the kids. The rising action takes place when Dr. Montgomery was killed. This actions leads to the crash that allows the kids to be freed from Count Olaf. The climax occurs when Count Olaf and the kids get in a wreck with the judge that placed them with Dr. Montgomery. Count Olaf ran away to avoid being sent to jail.
Theme
The theme or message of this book is persevere through hard times. The kids have to face many things including the death of their parents and their uncle. They are afraid of Count Olaf. They prove that it is important to stick together when faced with a series of unfortunate events.
Book Recommendation
I really enjoyed reading this book. If you like mysteries, you will love this book. It is one of the best mysteries I have ever read. It always kept me on the edge of my seat and ready for more. Reading is not always my first choice of things to do, but this book really hooked me! I am happy to say that this book is one in a series so the mystery gets to continue. I would highly recommend this book any day!
