This Week at CCES
October 21-25
Our campus attendance goal is 98%. This week, we are at 96.22%.
Cub Crawl: A Campus Tradition
Earlier this year, I met with members of our staff and PTO and started to learn about some of the traditions Cibolo Creek holds dear. One of the most talked about events was Cub Crawl. Teachers, students, and returning parents proclaimed Cub Crawl as one of the best days of the year. Of course, my curiosity grew.
Since August, I have witnessed the planning, preparation, and collaboration that steadily pulses through the PTO committees and parent volunteers as we prepare for the event on October 25th. Cub Crawl, for those who are new to Cibolo Creek like me, is our one, big fundraiser of the year. We raise money through prize drawings, online auctions, community donations, and classroom challenges leading up to the big day. Students and their family members then come together to celebrate the fundraising efforts at the culminating event… Cub Crawl! Cub Crawl lasts all day and includes fun activities, games, and an opportunity to make new friends.
I encourage all our families to support Cub Crawl this year. 100% of the financial contributions you make go directly to our campus and our educational goals. You can even provide input and advocate for how the money is spent during our PTO meetings. It’s the best donation you can make all year knowing that it will positively impact your child’s school!
Finally, I want to thank our PTO and all the volunteers who are tirelessly preparing for next week’s event. I have never witnessed such a passionate, giving, kindhearted group of volunteers who are completely focused on making not only Cub Crawl a success, but Cibolo a great place to be! Please give these volunteers a high five next week if you see them hustling about at the event.

Building Self-Management Skills
We have also started a new SEL skill this 9 weeks which is Self-Management.
Self-management is a person’s success in controlling his/ her emotions and behaviors, especially in new and challenging situations.
The Why: If we don’t learn to manage ourselves, others will do it for us. Self-managers have more opportunity, freedom, and self-respect.
Key Concepts we will be teaching this 9 weeks:
· Humans can only control themselves.
· Behavior is a choice based on one’s perceptions about what happens in the outside world.
· Emotions come and go, and I can let them pass.
· Mind, Body, and Spirit work together.
· Brains can grow new pathways.
· Movement helps me manage my emotions and behavior.
· My response is my responsibility.
· I have my own brain - I make my own choices.
Components of the Skill of Self-Management:
· Paying attention
· Waiting your turn
· Focusing on a task despite problems or distractions
· Acting comfortable in a new situation
· Performing the steps of a task in order
· Thinking before you act
· Passing up something you want or doing something you don’t like to get something better in the future
· Accepting another choice when the first choice is unavailable
· Staying calm when faced with a challenge
· Adjusting well to changes in plans
· Adjusting well when going from one setting to another
