WAWM Heroin/Opiate Task Force
The Lane Intermediate PTA is having a special presentation at their January PTA meeting, on Tuesday, January 15th at 6pm. This month’s meeting will be held in the IMC (Library). Please enter at the south doors, by the cafeteria. Please join us for this special presentation from the WAWM Heroin/Opiate Task Force. The presentation will last about 45 minutes and then we will proceed with our regular PTA meeting.
Here is some information from the WAWM Heroin/Opiate Task Force.
Parents are still the most powerful influence in their children’s lives. According to the Department of Justice, youth who learn about drugs and alcohol from their parents are 50% less likely to use than those who don’t. The average age teen boys first try alcohol is age 11, for girls it’s 13. The average first use of marijuana is 14 years old.
Talking to your children is more important now than it ever has been before… Join us for an informative presentation to assist you in keeping your teens safe and knowing what to look for that may signify that your child needs your help.
Please join us for this workshop where we will talk about the following topics:
Substance use and current trends related to drugs and alcohol
What does it look like to keep our teens safe
Red Flags of Substance Use as it relates to IMS students
Talking to our youth about substance use, refusal techniques, healthy coping skills and mental health
This is a Free Event.
*This Parent Workshop Series is provided by the WAWM School District in collaboration with the WAWM Heroin/Opiate Task Force

Principal Message
Please join me in wishing Patrick Knaus, Assistant Principal at Lane Intermediate School, well as he resigns from the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District to become a Quality Assurance supervisor at Cargill. His last day with us is Friday, January 11, 2019. We will be working to identify candidates to be part of the interview process for this position. We will take the necessary steps to ensure that his successor is a great fit for Lane Intermediate School and our District. Again, best wishes to Mr. Knaus has he moves into the private sector.
Until the position is filled Ms. Kari Skonecki, Deeper Learning Coach, and Ms. Jessica Felle, lead teacher, will be helping me with administrative duties.
Have a great weekend!

Positive Calls
We are recognizing the positive achievements of our students. The goals of this system are to: 1) recognize students who are doing positive things; 2) strengthen teacher-student relationships; 3) strengthen peer-peer relationships; and 4) reduce negative behaviors; resulting in a stronger and more positive culture and climate in our school.
The process is simple. When a teacher catches a student performing one or more of the tasks on the Positive Behavior Referral, they will fill out the form and turn it into the office. Once a week, the students will be called down to the office to be recognized for their efforts, receive a small prize, and a positive phone call home. At the end of the month there will be a drawing from the referrals for the Student of the Month and the Teacher of the Month who will receive a gift card and have their photos posted on our social media sites.
Thank you for all your support in ensuring our students have a positive experience at Lane Intermediate School!
