Chehalem Elementary Newsletter- November 24, 2020

Principal's Message

Dear Chehalem Families,

I am sending a short newsletter to ease you into Thanksgiving. Remember no school tomorrow through Friday off (November 25-27). May feelings of gratitude and thanks fill your homes over the coming days.

As COVID cases continue to rise in our community, we may discontinue our community outreach for a bit. If the Book Bus or materials distributions were to be put on hold, I would send a text message the day of to let people know.

Thank you as always for your flexibility and for helping us keep everyone safe.

Stay healthy and well!

Sincerely, Angee Silliman

Principal

Walk for Water Event Through Mountainside High

My name is Allison Shi and I am a part of the class of 2022's IB Diploma Juniors at Mountainside High School. Each year, the IB Diploma Juniors host an event to help better our community, and this year, we have decided to host a Walk for Water event. The primary objective of our event is to raise money for the Thirst Project, which is a non-profit organization that provides hand pump freshwater wells for the 663 million people living in third world countries who do not have access to safe, clean drinking water. People in these third world countries can walk up to 8 hours a day to fetch water. In our Walk for Water event, we are encouraging participants to walk in their shoes for at least 30 minutes and raise funds through pledges to provide them with access to clean drinking water.

In compliance with all district COVID precautions, we will be holding this event remotely through the Strava app from 9 AM - 9 PM on Saturday, November 28th -- participants will walk on their own time anytime between 9 AM and 9 PM. Our event falls on a holiday weekend, sandwiched between Thanksgiving, which promotes a sense of gratitude, and Giving Tuesday the following Tuesday, which encourages selflessness. We currently have a goal to raise $500, which would provide 20 people with clean water for their entire lives. A donation of just $25 can provide one person with clean water for their entire lifetime.

This is a family event! Participants of all ages are encouraged to take part. More details will be sent out to those who fill out the sign up sheet: http://tinyurl.com/walk4waterMHS
