What all IES staff members need to know on 1/15/16.
One Word
For the past couple years I have reread the book One Word during Winter break. After reading it this year, I felt many connections to The Power of a Teacher. As I read I kept yearning for a word that would help me maintain a commitment to becoming better in every spoke of my wellness wheel.
After reflecting, I landed on the word FOCUS. I hope that by FOCUSing and giving attention, care, and time to the areas I need to improve, that I will improve every spoke in my wellness wheel.
I hope you too consider what your One Word will be for this year and share with us.
Keller ISD Literacy Institute 2016
Please take a minute to review the attached flyer. We have 3 teachers (Wendy, Kirsten, Lady) who have been through the training and are helping to train others. So if you are thinking about it or want to know more, I would ask them! My goal is to complete the training by next summer.
Please note there are only 30 spots!
ROCK Shirts
In the month of January, teachers, students, parents, and our community have an opportunity to purchase NEW 2016 R.O.C.K. shirts. This window is only open until Friday, Jan. 29. A second purchasing window will occur in March. The money raised from shirt purchases will help bring in district guest speakers and provide training to our faculty and community on anti-bullying and anti-harassment efforts.
If you purchase a shirt you can wear it with jeans on Wednesdays for the remainder of the year! Please encourage your students to purchase them and wear them on Wednesdays too!
Basham is collecting orders through Friday 1/22. He will compile the list of orders over that weekend and place the order on Monday, January 26th. Please add $.50 to help with the processing fee.
Ability Awareness Week
Starting on Tuesday I will be on announcements each morning bringing awareness to a variety of disabilities and will send out a quick video link for you to watch after announcements with questions for a class discussion. The expectation is for every class to watch the video right after announcements which can be done during your morning meeting if you have them. On Friday, students will get to experience disabilities first hand during a rotation during co-curr. After co-curr, a district counselor will come into your classroom and debrief with your students. They will be discussing the videos and activities that have taken place during the week.
Thanks,
Connie
