PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Bonny Slope Families,
March is just flying by and we’ve made it to Spring Break! It is also the last week to purchase tickets to the Bonny Slope auction on April 22nd! Our Auction Committee has been hard at work planning this special event, not only giving us a chance to connect as Bonny Slope staff and families, but the opportunity to bid on amazing items and activities, including Principal for the Day! I look forward to seeing many of you there dressed in your prom best!
April will be busy with field trips, events and preparations for Spring parent conferences the first week of May. There is no school on April 13 for Staff Development and April 14 will be a grading day. We’ll also be thanking our Volunteers during our Volunteer Appreciation Assembly on April 21st.
Our April Principal Chat will feature information from our Behavioral Health and Wellness Team about supporting students with anxiety. This will be Wednesday, April 5th at 6:00 on zoom (we’ll send the zoom link out in a reminder message). We’ll record the presentation and share it in our next newsletter for those unable to attend.
Kindergarten Orientation is on April 12 from 5:30-7:00 - families should enroll before then so we can prepare materials and get accurate enrollment numbers. All kids who will be five years old by September 1 are eligible to enroll. More info is available in our Kindergarten Flier.
I wish you all a restful Spring Break with time to recharge for the remainder of the year.
My Best,
Cary Meier
Principal

Calling All Gardners!
Gardening in the community garden will be incorporated into the curriculum this spring. The students will learn to cultivate soil, sow seeds, plant seedlings, and see the fruits of their labor grow. If you have extra seedlings from your home garden, please consider donating them.
What do we need?
Every student will plant a seedling or sow a few seeds. Here are examples of plants we may need, but we'd love any plants you can spare:
Starter Plants: tomato, eggpplant, pepper, leafy greens, strawberry, zucchini, cucumber, onion/scallion, marigolds, bean, corn starts
Seeds: carrots, beets, peas, pumpkins, zucchinis, cucumbers, etc. etc. etc. We'd also love to add more to our gardening tool collections - shovels, broadforks, trowels, shears, kids gloves, etc.
Interested in donating?
If you can donate anything, please fill out this form just so we have some ideas of what we can expect: https://forms.gle/VGn4FBJRgnhNtzeo6. It's not an absolute commitment as we know plants can be fickle.
When is this happening?
4/19&20 - weeding & amending soil
5/10&11 - planting & sowing
5/31&6/1 - weeding & mulching
6/14&15 - weeding & supporting plants (and maybe harvest...)
Interested in volunteering?
Stay tuned for volunteer signups on MyImpact in the coming days. Also, if you'd like to join the Community Garden Committee to help behind the scenes, please email garden@bonnyslopebsco.org.
Where is the community garden, you say?
It's above the playground. You can enter from the front from the narrow pathway up between the field and the playground or from the back by the shed you'll see when you walk up the hill from the bus loop. Right now, you'll see a lot of weeds, but the "potential" is there.
Help the students experience the joy of gardening!
2022-2023 Yearbook Orders + We need photos!
BSCO is excited to offer Bonny Slope’s 2022-2023 Yearbook! This year’s yearbook is $17 and can be paid online or by check/cash. The book will feature portraits from picture day and photos from all the exciting activities throughout the school year. This is a great keepsake for kids and families to flip through for years to come. Details to order and upload photos are available at our website: https://www.bonnyslopebsco.org/yearbook.
Important dates for this year’s yearbook:
April 21 - Photo submission deadline
April 28 - Yearbook order deadline
June - Yearbooks delivered to classrooms
Please note: If your student attended picture day in the fall or spring, their portrait will appear in the yearbook. If not, families can provide an alternate portrait for inclusion in the yearbook.
Please contact the yearbook committee with any questions at yearbook@bonnyslopebsco.org.
Reconnecting with Roots
“Reconnecting With Roots: A Youth Environmental Conservation Summit” will take place on April 15th from 1:00–5:00 PM at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. The event will be hosted by the Sunset High School Climate Change Club, Next Gen Innovators, and the Sherwood High School Green Team. The summit will feature keynote speakers addressing Environmental Occupations, Environmental Education, Climate Grief, and more! In addition, there will be interactive booths and activities to check out–these include local environmental organizations, high school environmental clubs, an environmentally friendly clothing swap, and guided nature walks through the refuge. The event is free to attend and we encourage people of all ages to join–especially youth! Our mission is to bring people together to learn about our environment, ask important questions, and, most of all, be a part of Reconnecting With Roots!
