KCSD Online Elementary
Information and a video for families of elementary students
Aug. 31, 2020
Dear families of KCSD Elementary Online students,
Thank you for your patience while we built KCSD Elementary Online. When we started this project we knew there was a need for a 100% online option for families who were not ready to send their students back to school anytime soon. As the project developed, we began to see just how big the need for this option was. Today, more than 500 families have opted to join KCSD Online. It has been a rewarding challenge to develop this option to you.
So where are we now? We are currently connecting students to their KCSD Online teachers in e-School and building the courses your elementary student will take with Pearson Connexus, a proven standards-based 100% online curriculum. Each student will take courses similar to what they took at their resident school, such as reading, math, science, social studies and health, but KCSD Elementary Online teachers will gradually introduce these courses to be sure that your student experiences success early in the program.
So what’s next? Our teachers are working with Pearson Connexus to engage your student in online learning as soon as possible. Our goal is to start onboarding your student into Pearson Connexus on Sept. 8. While we are moving as quickly as we can, we are competing with districts around the nation that have also partnered with Pearson Connexus in these unprecedented times. Our first week of KCSD Elementary Online may be a gradual onboarding process, and we are excited to introduce this new online school to you and your students.
Over the course of this week, KCSD Elementary Online teachers will be reaching out to introduce themselves to you, either via email or phone, asking about your technology at home and ensuring that you have a device that will allow your student to participate fully in Pearson Connexus. They will also want to learn about you and the unique needs of your child and family.
Again, thank you for your patience with us as we complete the final phases of KCSD Elementary Online.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Cole
