Better Together

I came across this TED Talk on my sister's Facebook feed...of all places...that I found captivating.

There are many things that make Prairie Point awesome, unique and a family - one of them is the diversity that our DHH program brings to our school. We have had housed the DHH program for K - 5 for many years. This year we were lucky to bring the EC DHH program back to PT and to provide support and services to students starting at 3 years old. If you have a spare minute (or 15) take the time to watch Christine Sun Kim - she is really inspirational!

Trauma Informed Schools

We started talking about restorative justice a little bit at our last faculty meeting and in the last To the Point. While restorative justice is definitely a school-wide paradigm shift, there are things that we are doing in our classrooms that support restorative justice. Providing opportunities for mindfulness, reflection and opportunities to share feelings in a safe and supported environment fit within this model. I have included a video below that focuses on ways to use dialogue circles (classroom meetings) to support classroom management.

AVID - Advancement Via Individual Determination

It is hard to believe that we are already starting to plan for the 2018 - 2019 school year! Among many discussion that we will have in the coming months is that of what our plan is to move forward with AVID and the binders for the upcoming school year.

While it is important to remember that AVID is so much more than a binder...organization is a key piece of AVID and one of the tenets of WICOR. I think that it is important to begin those conversations early this year so that we have time to plan and prepare for what the organizational tool will look like at each grade level. We have dedicated time during our Wednesday Faculty meeting to discuss organization.

Important Information

Teacher Grants

I have received the first teacher grant application back! Just a reminder, Home and School Teacher Grant and Open Grant Applications must be turned in no later than February 13th. Teacher Grants are available for K - 5th grade homeroom teachers. Open grants are available to all PT staff members. If you are asking for a grant that is over $200, you will need to attend and present at the March 1st H&S meeting. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Links to all of the grant information and applications can be found in the January 10, 2018 Faculty Meeting Agenda.

February 7th Faculty Meeting

I shared the agenda for Wednesday morning's faculty meeting, as well as provided a link to it here.

We will spend some time discussion AVID Organization and provide planning time with your grade level teams to talk about what this might look like at each grade level.

We will also dive deeper into ACEs and build upon what we introduced last month.
