This week
- Charges were filed regarding crimes under investigation on Old Orchard. Given the nature of the charges, we anticipate this will be a slow process. It is typical for communities of our size to form an investigative case squad with neighboring police departments providing the manpower needed to dedicate to an investigation of this size. Clay County Sheriff Department provided a great public service announcement to explain the investigative process & why information collected is protected for trial.
- Roadwork in Westwood Hills is complete, next up is patching Route N & H through town.
- Household Hazardous Waste Event last weekend was the biggest so far with 218 cars.
- MARC received funding to support transition to 988 suicide & crisis lifeline; region's first-ever coordinated, cross-county partnership addressing mobile crisis response to people experiencing a mental health crisis. Funds will work to implement a standardized crisis response system & achieve equity in emergency service delivery.
- Mike Anderson provided a scholarship to Oak Park High School student who provided aid to Excelsior Springs Police Officer & Eagles hosted a fundraiser with opportunity to meet Officer Stott & family on Friday. Greatly appreciated.
- Thrive Fall Kickoff celebrated achievements this year - received Silver Award from COE, host of Spring COE National Conference, introduced Citizen's Leadership Academy, completion of Community Scorecard & Action Plan. President Biden authorized "Community" as the 7th category of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards enabling recipient communities to serve as national role-models.
Choose Your Attitude!
I have more eateries I wrote about but couldn't get in the book that I wanted to share. Anything to bring attention to local eateries that serve great-tasting meals. Here's one of my favorites because of where it's located - at The Elms Hotel & Spa! Inside a beautiful hotel in ES, NE of KC, sits a warm, cozy restaurant that serves delicious, fresh food daily. But those who visit 88 at the Elms don't just go there for the food. Look out for the ghosts! #uniqueeatskc MattStewartBooks.com
