Math
This week: We will be reteaching and retesting for our unit on expressions this week.
Our power standards for third quarter are:
6.EEI.A.2 - Create and evaluate expressions involving variables and whole number exponents.
6.EEI.A.3 - Identify and generate equivalent algebraic expressions using mathematical properties.
6.EEI.B.6 - Write and solve equations using variables to represent quantities, and understand the meaning of the variable in the context of the situation.
Our learning target for this week is: I can create and evaluate expressions involving variables and whole number exponents and I can identify and generate equivalent algebraic expressions using the mathematical properties.
Important terminology for this unit:
Variable, equation, expression, inequality, term, coefficient, operator, inverse operation, constant
Math properties for this unit:
Commutative Property, Associative Property, Identity Property, Distributive Property.

This week:
On Monday, will be completing a pre-test for their next learning target over weathering, erosion, and plate tectonics. We will be conducting a weathering and erosion lab throughout the week to go along with their learning!

Should trampolines be banned? Should students go to school year-round? Students will continue reading argumentative articles. They will identify the author's claim (argument). Also, they will discuss reasons and evidence that the author includes to support his/her claim. After exploring these texts as a reader, students will eventually be writers of argumentative pieces.
Important Vocabulary: claim/argument, debate, pro's, con's, OREO, point of view (pov)
3rd Quarter Objectives - ELO's (Essential Learning Outcomes)
- Draw conclusions, infer, and analyze by citing several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
- Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text, including figurative, connotative, and content-specific meanings using context, affixes, or reference materials.
- Explain the central/main idea(s) of a text and cite evidence of its development; summarize the text.
- Analyze how a particular sentence, paragraph, section, or image contributes to meaning. (focus on the different structures & signal words)
- Read and comprehend informational text independently and proficiently.
Identify an author’s argument in a text and distinguish claims that are supported by reasons and evidence from claims that are not.
Student can demonstrate an understanding of the key ideas expressed by the speaker (media/audio presentations).
