Parent-Teacher Conferences
Dear Parents and Guardians,
October is Parent-Teacher Conference Month. Your childās teacher will be reaching out to you to schedule conferences to review your childās progress so far this year. Research shows that students do best when parents/guardians and the school work together as a team, and keeping open lines of communication is a great start! Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with you (if they havenāt already) to go over some of the great things that are happening in our classes. To help you prepare, please see this link for some tips: https://www.colorincolorado.org/article/tips-parents-parent-teacher-conferences. Thank you for your continued support. We canāt do it without you, and we appreciate all that you do.

Read-a-Thon Event!
This year, the PTA has partnered with the Literacy coaches at Hembree Springs to hold a Read-a-Thon event as part of Literacy Month. Hereās how your student(s) can participate:
1. Complete the pledge sheet found in the Friday folder packet and return to your studentās homeroom teacher no later than Friday, October 21st, 2022. - Date Extended 1 week
2. Complete the reading trackers during the week with your student to be turned in each Friday of the event.
3. Have fun and read lots of books!
ALL reading counts- silent reading, reading aloud, being read to, and audiobooks!
Participation is optional, but there will be incentives for students who complete their pledge goals. There will also be special prizes by class, grade level, and schoolwide if reading goals are met. Additionally, each student who returns a pledge sheet will be entered to win a Kindle Fire E-Reader Tablet.
The Read-a-Thon will also serve as a fundraiser for the PTA. We will be raising money by minutes read schoolwide, not by individual student. Anyone who would like to donate funds to encourage us to reach our goals can visit our MemberHub fundraising page at https://app.memberhub.gives/hembreereads and donate a flat rate or by minutes read by the entire school.
**INCENTIVES WILL BE AWARDED BASED ON READING GOALS, NOT FUNDRAISING**
If you have any questions, please reach out to Jess Fadden at gafaddens@gmail.com.
Service Project Opportunity
Interact Club will host the first service project for this school year, Blessings in a Bag. You can learn more about this organization at www.blessingsinabag.org. Everyone is invited to participate as you see fit by sending in any of the food items from THIS FOOD LIST. We will receive donations beginning next week through Friday October 21st. Collection boxes will be set up at entrances from carpool and busses for student to drop off.
FCS Student Technology Competition
We are looking for tech savvy 3rd -5th grade Hawks to represent Hembree Springs at this fun event! Students can work individually or with one partner to create a project using a tech tool of choice. Check out the CATEGORY LIST in the Tech Competition Details link below. The event will take place at Riverwood HS on Saturday December 1oth, and you will be given a timeslot for your child to present.
While this is a project that would be made at home with parent supervision and guidance, Mrs. Anderson is your go- to liaison so reach out at www.andersoncm@fultonschools.org as needed. November 11th is the DEADLINE to contact Mrs. Anderson and turn in THIS SIGNED REGISTRATION FORM and THIS COPOYRIGHT VERIFICATION FORM . This is a great chance for students to show their appreciation for their favorite tech skills using tech tools of choice. Even more, they experience real competition in a safe environment with Fulton Teachers from across the district to support and encourage their efforts. Letās GO Hawks!! We have some exciting new changes to our school- family compact signature process. There is a new digital signature process that has just been approved for use. In Infinite Campus it will be within the portal under the documents section. You may digitally sign the form and have your students 10 and older digitally sign the form as well. Students under 10 will not need to sign the form. The process is very similar to the code of conduct signature process.
Please also find enclosed a link to copies of the District Parent and Family Engagement Plan and the School Parent and Family Engagement Plan information. Title I / Title I Homepage (fultonschools.org)

Letter from Ms. Smith
Hello Parents and Families!
It has been a short school week for students, but our staff has been working so hard! Hopefully you were able to meet with your child's teacher this week for conferences. If not, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher for scheduling a meeting this month. Also, we are enjoying our Literacy Month. The PTA Read-a-Thon is underway. The Pledge Sheet was due today, but I have had several requests to extend it. We will continue to collect Pledge Sheets until October 21, 2022. As a reminder, the student who reads the most will get to be Assistant Principal for the day helping me out on all the work that needs to be done around the school. Also, if we meet our school wide goal of 75, 000 minutes, I will also complete a dare. That actually makes me pretty nervous, but I will do anything to get our students to read!
PTA is also hosting the TRIKE or TREAT Fall Festival on October 21, 2022 at 5:30pm. Please plan on joining us. It will a great time for the entire family!
Lastly, I want to remind you that all students should be wearing appropriate clothes to school. This means that spaghetti straps, short shorts, and crop tops are not allowed at school. We have also seen a rise in clothing with pictures of weapons. Among Us is a popular game that many students play and wear clothing depicting the characters who are holding weapons. Also, as the weather gets cooler, students are wearing hats, scarfs, and gloves. We encourage students to dress for the weather, and these items are for outdoor use and are not allowed inside where the temperature is regulated. Thank you for your help on this!
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith
