January 11, 2018
Dear Baywood Families,
What a joy! It has been a wonderful (although quite rainy!) first week of school in 2018 at Baywood. I want to thank you for entrusting your children to us each day, and for your support and partnership. Baywood is a wonderful school all around! We have caring teachers, committed support staff, the best kids, wonderful families and a fabulous community. Looking forward to a blessed and learning filled 2018!
Speaking of learning, tomorrow, Friday 1/12, while your kids are home from school, your Baywood teachers will be in Professional Learning sessions on two topics: Supporting students in the classroom who have challenging behaviors & learning more about the 'bands of text complexity' in reading and building toolkits to confer with individual students as they read. In addition, our PTA will be hosting a build day in our Makerspace getting it ready to launch for students.
Also, a reminder that Monday is a school holiday as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

What's the Issue?
Our kids live in a culture of sharing that has forever changed the concept of privacy. In a world where everyone is connected and anything created online can be copied, pasted, and sent to thousands of people in a heartbeat, privacy starts to mean something different than simply guarding personal or private information. In this context, you might think about kids' privacy in three categories: privacy and security, privacy and reputation, and privacy and advertising.
Privacy and security: This is the private information (e.g., Social Security number, first and last name) that could put kids at risk for identity theft if it got into the wrong hands.
Privacy and reputation: The information that could be personally embarrassing or hurtful to them or others if posted publicy.
Privacy and advertising: The information about their habits and behavior online that companies collect in order to target them with ads and other content.

Join Our New Sign Program
Baywood PTA is looking for businesses to join our new fundraising program. Every sponsor will have a vinyl sign with their business logo hung on the fencing surrounding the school. It’s a great way to advertise and support our school at the same time. Do you own a business or know of one that might be interested?
Please contact Melissa D’Aunoy for more information at Baywoodptalofundraising@gmail.com
All orders due by January 11th
