Open House and Art Show- 5/19 at 6pm

Open House and Art Show is this Thursday evening from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm! This is one of the best nights of the year, and since we haven’t had this event in over two years, it is going to be bigger than before! Open House is a night for your child or children to show you what they have learned, discovered, and created in their classroom. Tons of artwork including our school-wide Wish project will be on display in the multipurpose room, so you definitely want to visit that area, as well. Our classrooms and multi will be open from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm.

We have two performances at our Open House:
Our Jazz Pack will be performing in our Kind Matters Quad at 6:30 pm. Our Jazz Pack features talented musicians from 4th-6th grades who commit to practicing every Monday after school. They are amazing, so definitely stop by to check them out!

Our Choir Cubs will be performing at 7:00 pm in our Kind Matters Quad. These 3rd-6th graders work together every Wednesday after school and will share their beautiful voices and talents with us!

While you are in the Kind Matters Quad, you want to be sure to check out a couple of other things:
Our PTA will be conducting our annual class basket raffle. This is typically done at our Fall Harvest Festival, but, since it’s been awhile since we have done this raffle, we decided to bring it to our Open House. The baskets are amazing. Raffle tickets are $1 per ticket, $10 for 12 tickets, $20 for 25 tickets. Payment is cash or check only, and here’s a little tip - bring address labels or an address stamp for the raffle tickets (you’ll thank me later). Raffle tickets will be pulled at 7:30 pm in the Kind Matters Quad!

And, the world famous black and white photos by our own, Ms. Garner, will be for sale. Ms. Garner has taken individual photos of every child in our school, she has captured their spirit, and they are gorgeous (the photos and the children!). You will want to stop by the Quad and get yours. Prices are $20 for 1 photo and $15 for additional sibling photo (so $35 for 2, $50 for 3, etc.). Again, payment is cash or check only.

Finally, there will also be amazing food for sale! The El Taquero food truck and Oskeys Ice Cream will both be located in our staff parking lot closest to our office building/multi. Grab a bite and treat, and feel free to eat in our outdoor eating area (please keep food and treats out of our classrooms and multi).

As you can tell, this is going to be a special community celebration of the hard work of many, students, staff, and volunteers, AND, we all get to be together, in person, celebrating! I’m looking forward to seeing you all there!

And, in order to prepare for our Art Show, we need many hands to help set up this Thursday, May 19. Set up begins right after first bell and we’ll take you for as much time as you can give. Ms. Yurth will be eternally grateful!!

WELCOME to our PTA Board-Elect

At the April 6th PTA Association Meeting, elections were conducted for the next term of the PTA Executive Board. This board plays a very important role in the PTA AND the school, as they meet several times every school year to make big decisions regarding activities/events and funding for our school. The PTA could not function without the amazing volunteers who step forward to take on an even bigger commitment of joining this executive board. The following people were elected on 4/6 and will 'take office' on July 1, 2022.

President - Sylke Anderson

Vice President - Jenna Moore

Secretary - Jen Mitchell

Treasurer - Lorene Busse

Financial Secretary - Mari Patrick

Historian - Erin Bishop

After 2 years in their current positions, some of our board members will continue on with the new board, in different positions (Jen Mitchell, Erin Bishop, Mari Patrick), and some of our board members will be moving on to assist our school in other ways these upcoming years (Maren Dever, Rachel Boenisch, Angi Busick). Thank you to all of you for serving the PTA!

Another big thank you to board members Alex Jelliffe and Michelle Rodd, who do not hold elected board positions, but together chair our Communications and Outreach committee and serve on the executive board by appointment, and will hopefully continue to serve in this capacity. Parliamentarian Sarah Nelson and Auditor Erin Carlson have also completed serving two years in their roles, under appointment of the current president. You all make this team SOMO strong!

Sonoma Mountain Charter PTA’s goal is to make our school a great place for learning. We work hard to raise money through various fundraisers to help support the programs and activities that enrich our children’s lives. We also strive to build a strong community. Our community has made our school one that you can be proud to send your child to. Support our children and their teachers by joining the Sonoma Mountain Charter PTA.

For the small fee of $12.00 per person, anyone can become a PTA member: parents, students, grandparents, friends, etc… Membership entitles you to have a say in how Sonoma Mountain Charter PTA money is allocated while also having voting privileges at PTA meetings. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 pm. We would love to see you there, but it is not mandatory.

(Donations beyond the $12.00 fee directly benefit your child and our school. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to our PTA today ~ thank you!)
