Principal's Message

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! That was the theme for opening day. Here is the video we used to welcome the students on the first day.

I can speak for myself when I say how excited I am to be back. Is it perfect? No. However, even though we are wearing masks and eating outside, we have classes full of kids and ALL of our students are in person and interacting with their teachers and classmates. That, to me, is a win any day of the week.

We had a chance to work with the kids these three days on many fun, but oh-so important activities. Remember, some of these kids have not been in school since March 13, 2020. We had lots of activities to reflect, share and just interact with each other. We had tours of the building for all our classes. It was an important and necessary first three days.

Sports and clubs will be starting next week. Interested students were given the packets for sports which include physical papers among other things. Those are due by Monday for Tuesday tryouts. Most Urgent Care locations can do these for you.

Looking forward to a full week next week. Enjoy your weekend.

Thanks,

Bud

Wildcat Way & Star Principles

Over the spring and summer, our Climate Team continued to meet and work along with our partners from Rowan University. The work towards a more equitable school focused on reviewing our discipline policy and looking at what is important to us for our students and staff in Lumberton. The team worked around the core principles of stay safe, respect everyone, always be kind, and take responsibility. These led to the development of the STAR Chart and the Wildcat Way. We look forward to introducing these ideas to the students of LMS.

Afterwards, the students wrote thoughts and reactions and messages and we went outside and planted three new trees commemorating the 9/11 anniversary and the students placed the papers with their messages, thoughts and reactions in the hole where the tree was planted.

Congratulations, Mrs. Scotto

A big congratulations to Miss Walters who is now Mrs. Scotto after her wedding this summer. She is also changing roles at LMS this year, primarily handling 6th grade math duties. We wish her many years of luck and wedding bliss!

Welcome Miss Edwards

LMS is thrilled to welcome a new counselor this year, Miss Cierra Edwards. She is replacing Mrs. Byars who left at the end of last year. We had many wonderful candidates, but Miss Edwards rose to the top. She will be working with all three grades and primarily work with kids who have a last name between A-K.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

When coming to pick up your son or daughter, please follow the directions in the parking lot. We know everyone is busy and it can get frustrating, but safety is our number one concern, and the first of the STAR Principles. We need to keep the lane to the right clear for buses. I promise you, this gets smoother as we do it everyday. Thanks for your help and patience.

Also, please do not park your car and walk through the lot to retrieve your child. This is not safe. The line will move.

Outside Lunch

On amazing days like today, nobody complains about eating outside. For the foreseeable future, while the weather cooperates, we will continue to eat outside. It gives the kids a chance to take their masks off, interact with friends and just relax.
