Window EXTENDED to Request Change in Learning Environment for Fourth Quarter

Last week, we sent out a Weekly Buzz Update with the form that any family of a CMS student who was interested in changing the learning environment for their student who is in either a remote learning setting or a traditional learning setting for the FOURTH QUARTER. There are just over 40 students in a remote setting. We heard from five families.

In order to make sure everyone has the opportunity to request this move, we are extending the deadline to Monday at noon. Families should complete change form at the following link to indicate they wish to make the change:

https://forms.gle/YpfuXH2UgkaEycpc6

If you are unable to access the link, you may contact the school office at 205-379-3230, and we will assist you in completing the form / making the change.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO COMPLETE THE FORM OR CALL THE SCHOOL IF YOU PLAN TO LEAVE YOUR STUDENT IN HIS/HER CURRENT LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.

We are currently preparing for ACAP Summative Testing for all Corner Middle School students. We will be calling the families of all students in a remote setting beginning Monday afternoon to determine your intention for the fourth quarter.

If a student plans to continue his/her work in the remote setting, he/she should come to the school on March 17-19 in order to take the ACAP Summative Assessment. If a student intends to return to school for the fourth quarter, he/she will not come those three days. Instead, the student will take the spring test during the week of the regular grade level assignment upon return. (Those dates can be found in last week's Weekly Buzz.)

Likewise, if a student intends to change from traditional to remote, the students will take their spring ACAP Summative Assessment on March 17-19 since they will not be here in the month of April.

We received several questions in the surveys that were answered above. However, one regarding masks were worn. As most know, Governor Kay Ivey has stated the mask order will end on April 9th. In the order she gave, educational entities may continue to require the wearing of masks through the end of their school year / moving forward. As the Jefferson County Board of Education releases its requirements in the coming month, we will release those to CMS families.

Once again, please remember, once the setting has been established, it cannot be changed unless the change is warranted due to a documented health situations, in response to a student's academic progress, or after administrative approval for an emergency situation. Thank you for your assistance!
