Emerson Middle School News
Friday, September 15th
Dear Emerson Families,
Thank you to all who attended our Curriculum Night on Wednesday. It was wonderful to see so many families. We are appreciative of your support and involvement, and we are grateful to partner with you in your child’s education. We hope you got to feel the genuine care and concern that the Emerson staff has for its students.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Best,
Tessa

6th Grade Health Requirements
As a reminder, the State of Illinois requires all 6th graders to submit a health exam dated after 8/23/22 on a State of Illinois form by October 15th to avoid exclusion. Your provider's office should have this form. The IHSA form is not acceptable.
Immunization records, including proof of the Meningococcal and Tdap vaccines, are required for all 11-year olds.
Please don't forget to complete, sign and date the health history at the top of the second page. This part is really easy to miss and is a required part of the exam.
Please note, all health forms must now be uploaded to PowerSchool. Hard copies will no longer be accepted. Once you have done this, check back to make sure the documents were approved. The required forms are available at www.d64.org, under Departments > Health Services. Completed forms should uploaded into Powerschool under Health Office Document Submission. If you cannot upload these documents because you are having technical issues, please contact Angel Villarreal at avillarreal@d64.org
The parent/guardian health history portion on the reverse side of the form must be completed and signed in order to meet the state requirement.
Students not in compliance with this regulation on or before Sunday, October 15, 2023 will be excluded from school attendance beginning Monday, October 16th, 2023.
PowerSchool and Schoology Instructions for Parents
Middle School Athletics
Any student who plans on trying out or signing up for an Emerson Interscholastic Athletic Team must have both a Parent Permission and Health Form uploaded to PowerSchool in order to participate. Students will NOT BE ALLOWED to try out for any sport without submitted forms. This rule applies to the following teams:
Girls' Basketball
Boys' Basketball
Cross-Country
Wrestling
Girls' Volleyball
Boys' Volleyball
This does not include intramural sports.
When in PowerSchool, choose your student's name at the top. On the left hand side, click on Forms. Under General Forms, you will see Athletic Department Document Submission. Click on this and you can attach any required health forms for your child.
IHSA Forms and State of Illinois Certificate of Child Health Exams will be accepted.
Emerson PTO News!
PTO MEMBERSHIP
If you have not done so yet, PLEASE be sure to join the PTO by going to the website.
With your support, we can provide and help sponsor the many events and perks offered to your students and the school, like grade level socials, extracurricular activities, SOARS awards, classroom projects, and teacher appreciation!
OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT
Next week on Thursday, September 21, Emerson students, staff and their families are encouraged to attend this FREE event. Students selected the new Super Mario Brothers movie to be shown outdoors on the Emerson field west of the school at sunset (in the event of rain, it will be held in the school gym). All can arrive as early as 6:00pm to set up. Concessions such as Rita's Italian ice,
pizza, popcorn, snacks and water will be available for CASH purchase starting at 6:30pm. (PLEASE send your children with small bills.) Every student must have an adult present/responsible for them. We are looking for more parents to help at this event so please sign up to volunteer at our website.
SPIRITWEAR
This year, students who wear Emerson Spiritwear on Spirit Days will get SOARS tickets from their homeroom teacher! (Those tickets are then submitted in a raffle for student prizes each week and at trimester-end assemblies.) PTO will be selling Spiritwear at many PTO events, like movie night on 9/21. Some Spiritwear and also Emerson magnets will be for sale at the main office BEFORE and AFTER school. For those who wish to order online and customize their spiritwear, click here.
6TH GRADE BOO BASH
The Boo Bash will be held after school on Friday, October 13 at Emerson. This is another FREE event provided by the PTO for the 6th grade students only. Students are encouraged to come in their Halloween costumes (please, no masks, make up or weapons.) There will be games, activities, music, and lots of snacks. Parents who wish to help plan and/or volunteer should please sign up at our website, ASAP.
Drop-off of Student Items/Lunches
Reminders from the Emerson Green Team
Though we have QUEST food choices during lunch, many students bring lunch to school. We highly encourage waste-free lunches. To reduce waste, please consider the following as you pack your child’s lunch:
-Please pack your child’s lunch in a reusable lunch box or bag (not paper or plastic bags).
-Use reusable containers for sandwiches rather than foil, plastic wrap, etc.
-Buy snacks in quantity and transfer them to a reusable container.
-Put drinks in a child-friendly thermos rather than sending throw-away juice boxes, etc.
Thanks!
The Emerson Green Team
