Unity Day - This Wednesday

Wednesday, October 19th is Unity Day! Unity Day is where we focus on kindness, acceptance, and inclusion against bullying. We want our students to show kindness and stand up for themselves and others when people may say or do unkind things. Help us support showing kindness by wearing Orange on Wednesday, October 19th.

Red Ribbon Week

National Family Partnership provides drug awareness by sponsoring the annual National Red Ribbon Campaign™. Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction cause by drugs in America. In 1988, NFP sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Celebration. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.

Halloween - October 31st

Classrooms will be enjoying celebrations the afternoon of Monday, October 31st. Students will be allowed to bring their costumes with them in the morning on Monday, and they will be given time to change into their costumes in the afternoon. Please be advised of the following costume guidelines (students will only be in their costumes for a very short amount of time):

  • Costumes must be school appropriate
  • Please be mindful that we have little kids here - please don't send too scary of costumes
  • No weapon-like accessories are permitted
  • Please refrain from costume masks that cover the entire face.

If your child wishes to bring in a "treat" for their classmates, please abide by the following guidelines:

  • Treats must not be candy items.
  • There must be enough of the item to make sure that everyone in their class is able to receive the item.
  • Any treats should be on the approved snack list for this school year.

Updates from the Teaching & Learning Department

The Week of October 17th -21st is Digital Citizenship Week

Every day, teachers lead students in the ever changing digital world. As this happens, it is important to help students take ownership of their online and offline lives. This also includes partnering with families to empower them and help them make smart choices with their students. Antioch CCSD 34 would like to suggest you check out Common Sense Media during Digital Citizenship Week. Common Sense is the nation's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in the 21st century.

Updates from Human Resources

Antioch School District 34 has open positions. Please check the Antioch District 34 website or contact Amy Mahr amahr@antioch34.com to learn more.

Updates from the Technology Department

iPad Information

Parent reminders regarding the new iPads:

  • Stickers and/or labels should not be placed on the iPad or chargers.

  • If there is an issue and an item is not working, please contact your building administrator to get a replacement as soon as possible.

  • Please help with the expectation of having the iPad charged once the student comes to school. It is very important that the student has a charged iPad so that class and instruction time isn’t lost accomplishing this task.

  • If possible, help show your student how to plug and unplug headphones in the headphone jack. The Technology Department has had numerous issues with broken plugs in the headphone jacks.

  • Please remind your student that the iPads are for school use, not personal use. They should not be used for taking personal pictures outside of school.

  • The iPads should be used for school-related work at home, not watching YouTube videos. YouTube can be a valuable educational tool when used appropriately. Please help us monitor this tool so that we can continue to utilize the value of it and not have the negative aspects.

The staff at Antioch CCSD 34 thank you for your continued support regarding the iPads and their value in enhancing the learning of your student. Please reach out to jcoon@antioch34.com with any questions or concerns.

Updates from Student Services

ALICE Training for Students

During the week of October 17 - 21 we will introduce age-appropriate ALICE strategies to students using developmentally appropriate resources. Training will consist of scenario-based practice and developmentally appropriate discussion regarding how to respond during a critical event. Please see our communication sent to all families on 9/22/22, and our Safety Update presented at our Community Safety Night that took place on Monday, October 3, 2022, for additional information. Please reach out to your building administrators if you have any questions.

Updates from the Business Office

A Friendly Reminder Regarding Student Transportation

Students should arrive at their designated bus stop 5 minutes prior to their scheduled pickup time. If your child requires a parent/guardian to meet the student at the bus stop and no one is there to meet the student, the driver will continue their route and bring the student back to their school building once all students on the route are delivered. Please contact the Transportation Department directly at 847-838-8388 regarding any busing questions.

Student Account Balances

Invoices for outstanding fees are emailed at the beginning of the month on a monthly basis. If you are on a payment plan, please continue to make timely payments.
