Reading Forces
The past 2 years a reading program called the Reading Forces has been run through the library to promote reading from home. It is meant to encourage 20 minutes of reading a night, and students earn a "rank" much like the Air Force, for each reading log they turn in. Many teachers have made this part of their homework, and then in May we will have a pinning ceremony to celebrate all the students that reach the final ranking.
Students can fill out the Reading Forces Google Slide through their Google Classroom and turn it in virtually once it is completed or students can turn the attached copy into their teacher.
Mrs. Kent will remind teachers at the end of each month to update any classroom reading logs that have been turned in so she can update the display in the library. She plans to have special "treats" to pass out to students that participate at the end of each month to help encourage them to read from home.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we learn to navigate this new world in education and thank you for continuing to foster a love of reading in your students! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me!

USDA Extension of Free School Meals
Dear Parents:
Last week the USDA announced several summer meal waivers are extended through December 31, 2020, or until the funding is used. For Knob Noster students, this means that the District can continue the summer food service program that has been offered during the COVID-19 closure.
We will be able to utilize this program during regular school hours and feed breakfast and lunch to ALL children, ages 1-18, and all students (virtual & in-person) for FREE. If the funding becomes unavailable prior to the anticipated December 31 deadline, we will communicate with families in as timely a manner as possible.
The free meals began on Tuesday, September 8. Currently, breakfast and lunch will be FREE through December 18 when we release for Christmas Break. Please note the program does not extend to purchasing a milk to accompany a sack lunch from home. Milk is 45 cents and will need to be paid out of your student’s meal account. This is for the purchase of an “extra” milk. It does not apply to milk that comes with a school meal – that is free with the meal.
If your student is an in-person learner, there is nothing further you need to do. Virtual learners and families of all children, ages 1-18, in our community who want to take advantage of school breakfast/lunch should complete this form daily (by 9 a.m. the day you want lunch) - https://forms.gle/M6SHh6WB2Wj6QxKJ6
Pick up will be at your child’s school cafeteria during lunch serving times and will include lunch, plus breakfast for the next day. Three lunch choices will be available each day. Hot lunch, cold sandwich, or salad. The lunch choices are based on the school menus available here -http://knobnoster.ss13.sharpschool.com/p_a_r_e_n_t_s/menus_and_nutrition Parents who pick up meals should bring a form of ID (school ID or car rider pick-up decal) for their child as proof of residence in our district (per DESE guidelines).
We are excited to be able to provide FREE meals to ALL our Panthers!
Very respectfully,
Jerrod Wheeler, Ed.D.
Superintendent
