Troy 30-C Monthly Happenings
January 2023

Superintendent's Corner
Now that snow is falling and winter is in full swing, I want to take this opportunity to remind all of you to use caution when moving about outside, especially when walking to and from your bus stop. Please use extra caution, take small steps, be alert, and dress warm as winter weather continues. With winter break officially behind us, we are now half-way through the school year, and what a great start we have had! Our students are enjoying assemblies, family reading nights, family game nights, and school dances. Our athletic teams are giving it their all during games and practices. Most importantly, our students are learning every day. I hope the rest of the school year continues to be just as successful. Thank you for all of your support.
- Dr. Paul Schrik
#BeTroySafe
In our ongoing efforts to ensure safety here at Troy 30-C, we are happy to announce the creation of a dedicated School Safety Page on the district website. This page has safety information readily available to students, families, and staff. It also offers our newly developed #BeTroySafe Tip Line! Students and parents will easily be able to report any safety related concerns discreetly and directly to their child's school, as well as our school district administration team. Check out this page of the website for more information: www.troy30c.org/betroysafe

We want to hear from you!
Students and teachers across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the eleventh annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
- Effective Leaders
- Collaborative Teachers
- Involved Families
- Supportive Environments
- Ambitious Instruction

One Book, One School
Each of our Troy 30-C schools is participating in a literacy celebration entitled, One Book, One School. Students, staff, teachers, and families are celebrating and exploring the building selected novel with classmates. This fun school-wide project reinforces reading instruction, increases parental involvement, bridges the home-school connection, and builds a true community of readers.
WBO Strategic Plan Update
The WBO strategic plan is steered by a core team and advisory committee of various teachers, administrators, and parents. All stakeholders have been surveyed and offered the opportunity to engage in open forum meetings to share successes, opportunities, and hopes for WBO. The data collected has been reviewed and analyzed to identify priorities for action planning for the remainder of the school year. The 23-24 master schedule development, effective communication, and safe hallways and stairwells were identified as the top priorities. Subcommittees for scheduling and student safety have been created with students and staff to make improvements moving forward. The core team and advisory committee continue to meet monthly to monitor progress on action items.
