Yelm Community Schools
April 2020
Superintendent's Message
- ensure every student feels safe and valued,
- maintain relationships and connections,
- build on each student’s learning, and
- use a variety of strategies to monitor, assess, and provide feedback to students about their learning.
As Spring Break approaches, we ask for your support by encouraging
students to remain home and not visit with friends.
DISTRICT NEWS
This week we launched our plan to support the Continuation of Learning for our students. It started with the distribution of more than 2700 Chromebooks. Teachers are developing Google Classrooms and connecting with their students. Families can anticipate teachers will share a weekly learning plan. It is critical that all our students develop the daily practice of connecting with their teachers and engaging in the lessons. We ask that parents assist students in accessing materials and reviewing teacher feedback. As a reminder, we will be on Spring Break from April 6-10. Teachers will not be posting lessons during the break. Continuation of Learning will resume April 13. If you need assistance, please contact your teacher.
YMS CONSTRUCTION ON SCHEDULE
While we had to postpone the Ground Breaking Ceremony for Yelm MS, we are thankful school construction projects are deemed essential. FORMA has been able to keep the project on schedule. Take a quick peek at some of the work that started this week. We will continue to provide updates on our website and social media so you can watch the progress.
MEAL SERVICE CONTINUES DURING SPRING BREAK
COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
Our community has provided amazing support for our students and staff. Big shout out to our staff and the businesses that have donated materials so we can provide services during the closure.
Never been easier to self-report - whether online, over the phone or by mail - to complete the Census. Reporting who lives with you is essential for supporting schools and identifying how federal funding is distributed. This only happens every 10 years.
Take time to visit the Census website to complete the questionnaire.
