Principal's News

Happy November! It's hard to believe that we're already just a few weeks away from Thanksgiving. I would like to thank all parents who participated virtually in conferences last month. It was wonderful to see such high participation, and we appreciated all of your feedback related to the conference format as well as our remote learning program thus far. As we now know, Kalamazoo Public Schools will be staying fully remote at least until March, and it's our goal to continue supporting parents and students, while continuing to improve and streamline our programming.

Last week, we held another distribution of school supplies and curriculum materials for Option 1 students. If your child is enrolled in Kindergarten through 3rd grade, Option 1, and you were unable to come to either of our distribution events last week, please call our office at 337-0590 to schedule a time to come and pick them up. We do still have several Chromebooks available for students who either didn't previously have a need for one, or who have a school Chromebook that isn't working properly. If you need to sign out a Chromebook for the first time, or exchange one that isn't working properly, please call us to arrange a time to do so. As a reminder, our office is open for in-person business by appointment only at this time.

We appreciate the high levels of attendance we've seen during remote learning. Please remember that daily attendance of live, synchronous lessons, as well live small group and SEL lessons (on Wednesdays) are also part of our instructional program. Your child will get the most out of remote learning if he or she is attending all of these sessions consistently. If it's necessary to miss a lesson, please notify the teacher and watch the recorded lesson, completing the work and/or communicating about the lesson with your child's teacher. As a reminder, it's expected that students attend at least 2 specials classes each week (see below for more information).

Tuesday will be records day for teachers to mark report cards, and schools will be completely closed for the holiday Wednesday through Friday that week.

We will return to our regular schedule for the first day of the 2nd trimester the following Monday, November 30th.

Holiday Gift Shop

A lot of things are different this year, but some things don't change! We will, as always, hold our Holiday Gift Shop for students to shop for family members if they choose to participate. It will be a bit different, as we'll be holding it virtually, but students and families have enjoyed this so much over the years, that we are very appreciative of Fun Services for accommodating our virtual needs.

Our virtual Holiday Shop will run from November 27th through December 24th. Orders will be shipped to the school and distributed before winter break (exact distribution date(s) to be determined). Please watch for more detailed information in coming weeks!
